I would say that overall thats pretty fair on a technological standpoint. Its very much been a trading blows kinda situation.

As DanceswithUnix said, avoid stock cooling. The top end Nvidia stock cooling is better than the AMD comparison (with the exception of the AMD 295X2 vs Titan X)

Nvidia do seem to be better at this this, although the extents as to which Nvidia block/cripple features on AMD cards vs the opposite tends to favour AMD from a "free market" point of view. I'm sure AMD are not innocent, however Nvidia are downright evil IMNSHO.

I completely agree with you here. It looks like Gameworks has ruined any ubisoft games for AMD.

Compared to 10 models of 750ti. My point is that so far nvidia has had no problems with hard launches of maxwell based cards, so there's no reason to expect the upcoming launch to suffer any major stock issues.

Me neither - current card is a "Super OverClocked" XFX. The 460 (also factory overclocked) I had before was from Gigabyte and had their special cooler - and that one was whisper quiet.
Don't get me wrong - the XFX isn't horrible, but you certainly know when it's having to work for it's amps - probably like one of those very gentle hand dryer machines.

I missed that news completely - flippin' typical. Then again, Intel's not managed to break the duopoly so I'm pretty sure that HP won't be able to either. Can't find anything relevant in a quick Google search either. Care to elaborate?

Weren't those already ruined because they were from Ubisoft and had uPlay attached?
Joking aside, I know what you mean.

    Adjusted that for you.

Both sides seem to be fine with the lower end stuff, it's the high end where they need better performing silicon that they struggle. nVidia especially, when it comes to large die. Still, this is now a very mature 28nm process, so hopefully it'll be a bit easier.

Only stock issues I have heard of have been down to currency miners buying certain AMD cards. Sounds like that is dying off, so hopefully things will return to normal now.

Personally I never drop that much money a graphics card, so I haven't noticed a problem from either side.

As Kal said, they always have issues with the high end. If rumours are to be believed, they seem to operate a matra of "bullying" the silicone producer towards the results they want, instead of working with them.

Ubisoft in general seem to have their head up their bottom when it comes to looking after their customer. Their double/triple/always on DRM malarky is a bloody nightmare, they are one of the biggest pushers of Day1 payed DRM... the list goes on. They are almost as bad as EA, in some regards i would say they are actually worse.

Hopefully sales of games with intrusive DRM drop off so they have an incentive to stop adding it. Right now all they're doing is making it more attractive to pirate things

Re: News - Rumours suggest Nvidia GTX 880 and 870 to arrive in Q4 this year

Is there a compelling reason to buy tho? If a £150 card plays games at 60fps at 1080p already - then are people really going to shell out £300 for a monitor and £300 for a new 870 card to play at 4K? Other than maybe driving the consumer version of the oculus rift (which may require 90fps at 1440p) and 4K monitor support - the average person on the street isn't going to dump their GeForce 560 equiv spec card unless games evolve to needing more demanding hardware.

It could all be BS, but who knows... I've seen some strange tech leap out and this could be the start of something huge... or BS to get on the radar.
