Wowzors. Blast from the past....although I can actually remember playing the first 2......IIRC Mark Hamil was in WC2.

Please no-one mention the Wing Commander film...
Isn't that John Rhys-Davies bottom left too - arguably more famous than Malcolm McDowell, especially to the kids (in LOTR and Indiana Jones)? Although I'll admit to liking Mr McD's acting in Tank Girl.
Anyway, back to the game - worth getting? If so, then I'm getting more impressed with the "On the house" selection - picked up Peggle for nowt at the weekend.
Like I said in the classifieds section here. If you like space combat games give it a go, it is a fun game, does look dated but if you can get past the old skool looks it is very good.
Yes, Paladin. There are other actors of very dubious origin..
Oh I don't know about that!- arguably more famous than Malcolm McDowell
If you don't know already, then no. It's strictly for nostalgia fans only, and you'll have already downloaded it by now if you wereAnyway, back to the game - worth getting?
Hopefully this will work, unlike Sims that was available last month.
It is Dosbox so you shouldn't have any issues running it, Sims 2 I grabbed and have had no issues with it either. I get the games via the client rather than the website though.
"Old skool" suits me fine - heck I still play Call Of Duty 2 ffs! Although it kinda lost some appeal after one of the kids asked me if I was reliving my childhood - cheeky nipper and wrong by more than quarter of a century (and damn nearly a half a century if we're talking about being of fighting age in '44).
Given it's free I'll maybe give it a spin - as it's an old title maybe it'll also be a small footprint, app drive is getting seriously short of space.
Pass... Mainly as I already got all 9 Wing Commander games on GoG for $11!!
I remember him in Shogun. Does that qualify me as 'Old' then?
I found a lot of the WC games ran like utter crap under DosBox, especially on a 1080p 27" screen... Privateer (the one with Clive Owen) had video cutscenes that looked like I was watching them on a broken 1979 CRT. Lines all over the screen!
I also heard there was a patch/fix for this - Not sure if it only applied to Privateer or all of them, though. Is the quality OK on your version, or is it abysmal?
The videos and transitions are very pixelated, not really noticing any scan lines though, mouse seems a little twitchy at times also, getting used to it though and enjoying it again.
If you have the GOG version there is a fix to actually make it the Win95 version, it doesn't work on the Origin release of the game though, tried it already and it says insert original CD, still its a decent enjoyable game. Need to get back into the Freepspace games and Tachyon, I like the way those actually have the guided shot crosshair (same on Freelancer actually) where you aim for the moving diamond instead of the ship itself.
At the time WC3 was kind of amazing, though not as emotionally good as the previous ones, but yes, Tie Fighter was a far superior space combat game, as was Free Space 2 as mentioned by Ferral. The Wing/Strike Commander games were never about the combat which was always arcade like at best. Makes me wonder what on earth they're playing at with Star Citizen but I don't think they really know either
Never actually was able to complete WCIII
May have to go for it...
It was good in its day but not now for fans only
