Call of Duty and realism... GTFO!
Re: News - Noriega sues Activision over Call of Duty character depiction
So Norriega is saying.
Quote:
The 80-year-old tyrant says the game portrays him as a "kidnapper, murderer and an enemy of the state" responsible for "numerous fictional crimes"
But the article then says.
Quote:
He is currently serving a prison sentence in Panama for crimes including the murder of various critics, which were committed during his time in power.
So, unless I'm missing something, his own people convicted him of multiple murder, (so the "enemy of the state" and "kidnapper" are a given) - in which case where's the objection?
Quote:
and is seeking lost profits and damages for violation of common-law publicity rights.
Lost profits? How does he figure that, unless he was a drug dealer too (like the DEA claimed).
Quote:
Lindsay Lohan filed a lawsuit earlier this month against Rockstar Games for using her likeness in Grand Theft Auto V.
Anyone with GTAV care to let me know if that character IS identified as Ms Lohan (in which case she's maybe got a point), or is it a "generic blonde bimbo". If the picture comparison in the article is true then I can think of quite a few pics on the 'net of other people that are just as good a match.
I can't help thinking that a lot of these sue-the-game-maker lawsuits are purely done to raise the profile of the "afflicted" sinking B-list celeb.

It'll be interesting to see if there's any defence to the right of sataire, that an exagerated depiction which superficially resembles a real world person is permissable.
Otherwise it risks shutting down a broad swaith of comedy expression

That GTA V picture looks more like a blonde Megan Fox to me.

Yes, based on those pictures, at least, the argument is extremely thin.
