Yeah the fans will be for overclockers.

In any case, yawn, I'll wait until it's a necessary upgrade as part of a system rebuild

The first generation of DDR4 will likely be slower than the top of the line from DDR3, just as DDR3 and DDR2 were originally.

Kits featuring 16GB modules should become available next year..... grumble, looks like a new pc won't be here for me until next year then, I want matx and 64GB ram which likely will mean 4x16GB :(

The only thing that I care about DDR4 wise is the fact that higher capacity modules than those available for DDR3 will be available.

Stated launch frequencies in the article are up to 3000 MT/s. While limited DDR3 is available up to 2933MT/s, the majority seems to top out around 2400MT/s, so frequencies at launch are already faster than DDR3. But that's missing the big advantage of DDR4 - every DIMM has its own channel. It's effectively going to more than double the available bandwidth when it makes it into the mainstream, before we get to the genuine frequency ramp.

So long as the latencies don't go through the roof like then did when DDR3 launched.

I don't remember them going through the roof, I thought they were roughly equivalent.

Hopefully they announce the price of the Dominators soon so I can decide whether to upgrade to X99 or Z97

There's a few sets up for pre-order on Scan and OcUK. While they're going to be higher than DDR3 for a good while yet, I hope the prices come down a good chunk once Z99 gets rolling.

Thanks. Bit higher than I was hoping for, but I won't be looking to buy till early next year so hopefully they may have dropped a bit by then

I had one of the older airflow fans from Corsair paired with some old Dominators and damn those little coolers are loud. A complete gimmick.
