"because it's the size of a passport there's something familiar about it"
How often/how long do you have to use your passport to even notice that ?
Never been a BB fan or had any of their tech but this ones does look like a nice step from their usual stuff.
When I first heard of this I thought it was satire. That keyboard looks painful to use.
"Perfect for accessing and editing documents"
If my company gave me a square screen to do all my excel work I would be more confused than anything else. Seems like a decent hardware lineup though.
It's hardly revolutionary - square touchscreen plus physical qwerty keyboard? Sounds just like my Q5. Not entirely convinced by the larger screen either tbh, looks like it might be awarward to use. That res though ;) Mine's only 720px
And when you stick it above a qwerty keyboard you barely notice the square screen, because on a normal smartphone you lose that screen area to an on-screen keyboard most of the time. The only thing it's probably poor for is consuming media, but that's so not the point of a blackberry smartphone anyway ;) For document editing I'd much rather have the square screen and physical keyboard.
Looks like one of those renders you used to see years ago of the 'next new phone'
[sarcasm]Looks like Blackberry are right back on track with this stylish piece of kit[/sarcasm]
I like how people are forgetting the fact it has 25 hours of battery life.
No, no, no, no, no.......
Slide-out keyboard was the way to go, keeping the phone aspect of sensible width and not impacting on the screen. Instead they've gone all bass-ackwards, to the point where a touchscreen keyboard actually seems preferable now!!
If I really needed a dedicated keyboard I'd get a usb or bluetooth keyboard that I could use when I needed and didn't take up space I'd prefer reserved for screen estate.
I could also switch between my phone and tablet accordingly and probably give a much better typing experience on the go.
It obviously wouldn't be as convenient as the dedicated keyboard at all times but swiftkey is still a great on screen keyboard.
If I wanted something to edit documents I'd want a keyboard and mouse on a decent size screen with good battery life (tablet/laptop), this I don't see the point of.
I almost like it. It didn't need to be completely square, but i can see the appeal of 4:3 or 5:4 for a business centric phone. Physical buttons is something i really miss from my old WP6 days and would love to see more companies offering it.
nokia e61 update anyone.....
Watching a few videos, if you used that keypad too long your fingers would ache due to the low flat position of it.
Sliding out keyboard like on the Motorola Milestone and HTC desire Z were the way to go.
^ The biggest reason I almost never got a smartphone. My Qtek 9100 still had the best keyboard ever, along with my SPV 5000 and I could type almost as fast on them as on this desktop here.
However, despite so many people buying clip-on boards and making websites dedicated to autocorrect and touchscreen typos, companies have chosen to drop phys-boards as they think people want either touchscreen only or thinner phones...!!
I have a Desire Z right now and keep a Motorola Flipout (with a barely usable board) as my backup.
That won't fit in anyone's pocket though ?
When did I think "Why doesn't my passport have a big screen and a keyboard?"
Let's see how this plays out.
