Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

    Not for a while.

For starters I currently mirror my projector with my monitor and that becomes a lot more effort if they're different resolutions. So unless my situation changes I shall probably upgrade when 4k projectors are cheap enough, and they're a long way off.

I would probably have bought a 27" 2560x1600 or similar last year instead of my current 1080p 23" if it weren't for that.. worth it though for that home cinema setup

Gaming is a non-issue since if you don't want to shell out £££ on GPU power, drop the res down to 1080p which is plenty high enough for good quality and enough to tax mid-range GPUs with high quality settings and enjoy perfect scaling (each rendered pixel fills four pixels exactly)

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

Many people have already noted all the issues with moving to 4K, from much higher GPU processing power required, no high quality picture on said resolution, software scaling issues (how this haven't been fixed yet is baffling) and lack of native 4K content all make up for 4K not really being the upgrade path go take at this point in time. 1440/1600p seems to be a far sweeter spot for productivity and gaming, considering going hardware prices.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

Not sure i'd want a 4K monitor right now even if i could afford one, but i do want higher DPI screens.

1366x768 at 11-15" and 1920x1080 at 15-24" for PC/laptops is damn embarrassing really considering tablets and even standard smartphones are getting higher res screens.

And yes i know DPI-scaling is an issue, but if the hardware pushes the envelope the software side will be forced to catch up.

Windows has a way to go before its ready for high DPI monitors. I have gotten pretty fond of Ultrawide for gaming anyway, its 34" 1440p 21:9 if i change anything.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

No, but I'm glad Apple have put their weight behind Ultra HD and beyond. Hopefully this means my audio software will soon be 4K compatible, and by that time maybe I'll be ready to buy in. My card's good enough for 1440p right now, but I'd need to buy both a 4K monitor and a card capable of good gaming rates at 4K to make the move worthwhile.

    Not yet.
    Have a liking for the LG 34UM95-P 34" 3440 x 1440 QHD.
Am surprised that Apple have not also launched a 5K Cinema Display seeing as they have just launced the 5K iMac.

Not planing on anything soon, my 1440p 27" monitor is more than enough and my 1080p 3D is perfect for gaming.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

Over the years, I've used anything from television sets, mono monitors to VGA, SVGA standard multisync monitors. With computer display memory capacity from 512bytes to 2Gigabytes (current spec). At the moment, I use a cheapo 1080p television set which seems to do an adequate job for me. Yes, i would upgrade to a 4k monitor, but unfortunately due to a lack of funds, I'll have wait a long while or until my boat stops sinking!

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

I'm waiting to find out the necessary CPU and GPU hardware Oculus VR will require first. 4K is a long way after that.

It's my belief that with both of the gaming consoles being underpowered they will hinder mainstream gaming uptake of high resolutions. Games will be designed for 1080p@30Hz and the PC will suffer through bad conversions.

Already have done, and it's one of the best purchases I ever made. I wouldn't dream of going back now.

Would rather have have 3 1080p screens....

Like the look of those LG curved screens due soon - three of those while playing Elite Dangerous would blow my mind.

I haven't used my desktop PC for several months now, so the answer is obviously no.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

As many have already commented - no, too expensive to supersede other planned hardware purchases any time soon, and for relatively little practical benefit at present also.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

I have been struggling with this question for a long time and in the end I decided that all that a 4k monitor would give me is essentially the same as my current 1080x1920 monitor but with a higher pixel count. In game I won't be seeing more of the gaming area, but with a 3440x1440 I will be getting both a higher pixel density and a bigger field of view in the games I want to play. All that's missing at the moment is a monitor that meets all of the specs that I want at a price that I consider to be a reasonable value for money proposition and, to the best of my knowledge, there are only three 3440x1440 monitor models in production at the moment, all LG models, including a curved model so I guess I'll just keep hanging on for now.

I don't think I'd be getting a 4k monitor for at least another decade, can't really see the point since I don't want my gaming pc screen to be too big, and it'll have diminishing returns having that res on a smaller screen.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to a 4K monitor?

I got the Asus 28" and am running native 4K 60Hz over DP1.2 with my GTX 680. However, I'm using Windows 7 and everything is tiny and it was a bit fatiguing at first but now I'm used to it. I play Starcraft 2 and DCUO mainly and they run at 4K easily but I haven't tried anything really demanding yet. All I did the first day though was play some 4K demo videos from Sony and LG I got from Youtube (they look incredible). I had to adjust my mouse as it was way too slow for the massive desktop. It think things will get better when I put Windows 10 on my machine.

I've been needing a new monitor for a while and have been waiting forever for 4K and wanted something to enjoy now. The TN panel actually looks very good even next to my Retina MBP 13". Looking at a 1080p monitor now for me is like looking at an iPhone 3GS.
