Well, as someone that values their privacy, my opinion is that the "smarter email alternative" is to not let my email go anywhere near Google if I can help it.
So, personally .... hell will freeze over first.
Awaiting my invitation email so I can see what this is all about....hopefully they may have implemented folders......the one thing I hate about gmail is the tags instead of folders concept.

Yahoo decided to stop working today on my phone and I like the look of this! Privacy does concern me though - emagine the extra advertising they could do :/

I've had Gmail for Eight Years now. Privacy is not a problem for me, I have two factor authentication via my mobile phone SMS and if I ever do anything bad, the authorities are welcome to my email records.
Has anyone tried the app yet?

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)
That's atrocious spelling by me - *imagine.
But yes, it's rather off putting!

If privacy isn't an issue for you, then fair enough. That's your choice. But two factor authentication is about protecting your account from hackers or ID thieves, not about keeping your data private from Google. It makes no difference to that. Similarly, Google keeping data profiles on you for commercial gain is a very different issue from them providing email data to authorities in response to a court order.
But as I said, if Google using the content of your email for their commercial gain doesn't bother you, fair enough. But it's enough for me to not use Gmail.
