I just use XBMC on my HTPC so a simple RC6 media center remote is more than enough for me.

I need to find something for a future HTPC build of mine. I am hoping the Steam Controller will have good enough mouse control to operate as an HTPC controller with a simple wireless keyboard for any text that needs to be input. Unfortunately the Steam controller is delayed so something that does both would be awesome.

Will read the recommendations over the weekend, hopefully I find something to add to my wishlist.

The best remote is the official Microsoft Media Centre remote, although they're no longer in production and are hard to find these days. I use one each for both of my HTPCs - nothing has come close. Sturdy, illuminated and has all the needed buttons to navigate and watch TV

Keysonic mini keyboard/trackpad (ACK-540RF) was decent if you need more than a remote too.

I use Unified remote, which works over wifi..install on PC and download onto android device and works a treat! :-)

I just normal MCe remote commands programme in to my logitech harmony 700 remote which does most things fine.

I also have a Rii mini one which is mouse, keyboard, airmouse etc, really works very well for everything else.

And the official MS keyboard is pretty good too. That and the CoolerMaster 260 case are the only constants in my HTPC. Only wish the keyboard was radio.

I'm installing a new NAS box in 2 weeks time that has XBMC as standard. Looking forward to seeing how it can be controlled by my phone.

The NAS box arrives next week so I have 1 week to play with it, going to be so much fun I can barely wait.

Gaming is the biggest challenge.

While small TV style removes, small keyboards with trackpads and xbox style joypads can do alot - what about playing the likes of battlefield or COD - nothing gives you that precise and speed of a mouse.
