I wonder how "temporary" the steering wheel and pedals actually are. As long as they are there, the driver is legally responsible for the vehicle, but without them?
Yes, this might change the "drunk in charge of a vehicle" laws...

IIRC, you can be prosecuted for being drunk in charge of a vehicle even if the vehicle is parked and you are asleep in the back - if you have the ignition key.

Even if it only goes 5mph. I will get one of these for getting home from the pub
If there's any sort of manual override, I guess you would be classed as in charge. What you need is some sort of system to remove temptation after chucking out time...
I like the sounds of it taking me home from the pub! Could mean changing the laws about drink driving though. Nice to see Google trying new things out!
I could do with one of these.
Its hard getting home after a night out waiting for trains from Sheffield to Manchester and other places so I could get in, fall asleep and wake up at home instead of waiting on the platforms of various train stations like Golum looking for his ring
In 20+ years I can see the laws regarding responsibility being changed, but even if it goes on sale before then it's going to have overrides, which means the responsibility will remain with the 'driver', even if it's just a kill switch.
So much potential for tedious motorway journeys and traffic jams though.
at least theres a reasonable excuse for google tracking where you go in this
i wonder if they show you (targetted) adverts while they drive you?
