I can say without a doubt i've been part of that trend. At the start of the year I got a job paying regular pay cheques instead of being self employed and never knowing if I will have disposable income the following month. That and the only games I have bought this year have been from steam, not expensive titles but still about 5 times as much as the previous year.
Next year may be different though, as I now have about 40 unplayed games to keep me going through 2015 so I have no reason to buy more.
Hard to tell what this means from the headline figure. Could simply be "games are 7.5% more expensive this year." ;)
Probably due to the fact that the PS4 and Xbox One games are a lot more expensive than the the previous generation.
I've just stocked up on games for 2015 during the Steam sale :) Got tons for the price of one PS4 game.
I've bought loads on Steam this past year, and I've even got a few Uplay/Origin download codes off Amazon because they were so cheap.
