I can say without a doubt i've been part of that trend. At the start of the year I got a job paying regular pay cheques instead of being self employed and never knowing if I will have disposable income the following month. That and the only games I have bought this year have been from steam, not expensive titles but still about 5 times as much as the previous year.
Next year may be different though, as I now have about 40 unplayed games to keep me going through 2015 so I have no reason to buy more.

Hard to tell what this means from the headline figure. Could simply be "games are 7.5% more expensive this year."

Probably due to the fact that the PS4 and Xbox One games are a lot more expensive than the the previous generation.

I've just stocked up on games for 2015 during the Steam sale Got tons for the price of one PS4 game.

I've bought loads on Steam this past year, and I've even got a few Uplay/Origin download codes off Amazon because they were so cheap.
