Looks at his i7 950 failing min spec. Looks at Phenom X4 passing. Hmm.

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PC system requirements published

I knew that the end of last year was the best time to upgrade from my old i5-760, 4gb ram and ati 7850 to a nice new 4790k, 8gb and gtx 970.

I wonder how the combat system is with this one though. The first Witcher game had a pants combat system in my opinion but the 2nd one improved it and I liked that one.

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PC system requirements published

So the minimum requirements are for a CPU that's 4 years old now... yeah I'm not fussed about that, that's like in 2013 having minimum requirements of a Q6600.

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PC system requirements published

Right. So my A8-3870K first gen APU is good to go (CPU is basically a Phenom x4 940 I believe). Or if you use an Intel board you need a i5 2500k to get the -same- performance.

    Yeah.

    Uh-huh.

    Makes sense.

Funnily enough by flatmate actually has a 2500k, I can confirm it performs better, could someone pass that note on to the game companies?

I assume this running on Mantle, and very well optimised with it? How else could lower equivelant Amd GPU'S and CPU's be recommended for minimum requirements?

Mantle is CPU agnostic - would lower requirements for Intel CPUs as well.

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PC system requirements published

hmm. I've got the 8gb ram and hard drive space. everything else is below minimum.
looking forward to playing the game (got the special edition on pre-order)

I know the min specs are there to show thats the spec you need to get acceptable play, but acceptable play is entirely subjective.
I've played and finished crysis 1 on a Athlon 2500+ and radeon 9600 at 13fps in very low and had loadsa fun doing it. so a bit of stuttering or non shiny bits here and there, don't make a jot of difference to me.
just means when I do upgrade my computer I can replay the games and they'll be entirely different and new feeling.

Think I'll stick to my i7 2600k and maybe overclock it to 3.7ghz for another year. Just upgraded the GPU to 970 GTX. Looking forward to this game coming out.

Not quite, closer to an Athlon II X4 640 as it has no L3 cache, but it's on a smaller process node (32nm instead of 45nm). Not a powerhouse, but alright. No match for an i5 2500k.

As far as I'm aware there will be no Mantle support, but there is heavy GameWorks integration, hence the disparities between Nvidia and AMD GPU requirements. I'm not saying requirements are what they should, just stating justifications as to why there are product segment differentiation.

    The Witcher 2

Gothic, Dragon Age, Kingdoms of Amalur etc. all the usual third person FRPGs. But better.

Good point. But, who knows. Maybe there are some secret optimizations for setups with both Amd Cpu's and Gpu's haha

Interesting. So maybe Nvidia cards will benefit from more graphical effects, and so require more power for them, while the Amd cards remain cut off from those extras. But then that doesn't explain why a more powerful Intel Cpu is required in comparison to the Amd Cpu..

I've played the first two games. And I find them to be really Stand Out RPG's. If you enjoy RPG's in this type of setting, it's probably safe to say you will enjoy this one. But, sometimes it can seem a bit indepth. I remember when I played the first one and I just found there was so much stuff I needed to remember to be effective in the game. I don't want to directly compare it to anything, because it does feel very unique for this type of game. One of the cool things about this game, is that it feels like it's designed for adults. And I'm not talking about the nudity lol.. I just mean that it has a very mature feel to all aspects of the game. They're not trying to win over any COD kiddies or anything..
