Woh.... That looks so real (aside from the where the curtains meet the ground, and the towels on the shelves). The Matrix is close now... I'm just wondering what kind of monstrousity of a rig you would need to run a full game with those kind of visuals lol...

This makes me excited Honestly, however, I can't wait until Nvidia releases their new grass engine because that's somewhere that I still see as sorely lacking in modern games.

I am very impressed. The apartment looked so realistic. Someone please help me close my wide-open jaw!

Re: Unreal Engine 4 tech demo shows ultra-realistic apartment interior

It's impressive what you can do in a 'gaming' engine but at the same time it is still clearly CG to me (even ignoring the juddery movements) - issues with the wall art, plastic chair, glass room doors, some shadows are out of keeping with the lighting and the obvious lack of variation in towels etc. Mind you I'm going to be picky as this is kind of what I do for a living lol.

I'd guess it would need a higher end rig to actually run something like this though, but then most cg artists do already have higher end rigs.

I can also see it being/becoming a required skill for architectural rendering, this and unity as I'm sure there was a unity tech preview which was similar to this.

Re: Unreal Engine 4 tech demo shows ultra-realistic apartment interior

What's going to be interesting down the road is if they can do this kind of thing on all the platforms which support UE4 - in particular, the Ouya, which just got its own version of UE4. If so, it's kind of interesting (exciting?) to see if the requirements of gaming systems, in particular, and all systems, in general, will start to come down instead of this continuous elevator ride up.

The original v1.1 link was down due to the author wanting to fix a few bugs but v1.2 is now up for anyone who wants to try it.

It doesn't need that high-end a PC. My £135 graphics card (R9 280) can render it at 50fps on 1080p.

Yaay 'Grass Simulator 2015' from Nvidia. You can water it, feed it, weed it and watch it grow. When you get bored of it you can mow it down.

Re: Unreal Engine 4 tech demo shows ultra-realistic apartment interior

Just looking at it above, makes my think - when fully developed, how good will games be then. I have watched a fair few steps from no real graphics or monitors and using punch cards back in 1973. Still had to use slide rules back then.
And Pong was the big hit then
What a turn for the books if they brought out a tennis game using this sort of engine.
    How games have changed.
