It's very nice for Nvidia to provide more options for ussers, especially of gaming laptops.

Aha, maybe we'll finally see a macbook pro retina 15 and dell xps 15 refresh, they're still using kepler GPUs at the moment (although lower end MBPs don't have a dedicated GPU at all).

Surely the days of the discrete GPU are numbered? Integrated graphics has already eaten most of the bottom end and is now working towards mid.

Erm ... according to the chart the 860M and lower cards are already GM107/GM108 Maxwell parts, and the "new" cards that replace them are also GM107/GM108-based, which means - if this rumour is correct - it's another same-old same-old direct rebrand. So the "next generation" won't rely on anything beyond pure clock speed for any performance improvement...

Probably. However, now that the Maxwell architecture is maturing, they might have some fixes or added efficiency. I'd love to see a comparison between the 860 and the 960...

NVIDIA is probably just doing this to consolidate the numbers and get everything on track with the 900 series. Really, it's just the fact that they decided to put Maxwell in a few chips...
