Has anybody actually been able to play one of these Internet Archive games? Because no matter what computer I use all I get is the loading wheel thingy no matter how long I leave it.

Yup, managed to get Joust working. Did take a bit more effort than I would have liked tho but was well worth it :)

Any effort in particular or just general effortiness all round?

Just the "all round" kind i think; maybe just hit f5 a bunch of times until it works?
Re: Atari reboots Asteroids as a sandbox survival PC game
No issues here, although some of the games do require reading through - in the case of Joust, you have to look for a separate controller pad on the upper left of the screen, and, non-intuitively, hit the Advance button, then hit insert coin(s), and then select number of players. It's explained in the text, but I don't recall any other advanced emulator (including Mame) that actually required reading the 'instructions'.

Ok...I can work with general hittiness...as my house will attest to.

As a software publisher, yes. They no longer do dev or hardware.
Most recently, they release Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition and Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 (mobile).
