    I'd assume because most motherboards have 3pin fan control abilities, even on the entry level boards such as H81.

    The previous R2 fans were a good option and at 140mm they were fairly quiet and had good airflow. I found that if they aren't screwed down properly they can vibrate like crazy, especially if they are mounted horizontally. I think they could seriously benefit from the rubber screw holes like corsair SP fans and noctua fans have.
