I have not included any paid app, or any app that actively promotes micro transactions.
Logic Dots and Two Dots are both top puzzle games and Duet, similar to super hexagon and frustratingly fun!

So far the only game i play often on my android shield tablet is Pure Chess, Trine which came installed is good but better played on a big screen or PC. And seeing as Amazon diddled me out of half life 2, HL2 episode one and portal (it was supposed to be the green box) I will just have to stick to the PC versions.
Oh and pinball arcade is pretty good (nostalgic pinball) but you have to pay for each table you want.
The Bard's Tale is pretty amazing for a mobile game (I know it's a PC port, but still). As for more casual titles, I'd go for Archmage, Heroes of Loot, dots, Hazard Rush, Nimble Quest and Rayman: Jungle/Fiesta Run. And World of Tanks Blitz and Shadowgun: Deadzone are good multiplayer choices.
And then there are NDS, PSX, GBA and a lot of other platforms' emulators...

2048 is quite a good puzzle.
I also enjoy QuizUp, but you need a network connection.
Carmageddon is free for Android. Quite slow loading times and graphics aren't epic, BUT IT'S CARMAGEDDON!
None. Smartphones are meant for phoning, messaging and linking all kinds of accounts. PCs and consoles are for gaming. Gaming is done on 14"+ screens. The bigger the better.
Surprised nobody has mentiond the 'Infinity Blade' series of games yet. They have decent graphics and VERY good gameplay and a nice story to top it all off.
None, a waste of time. Read a book, enjoy a walk with someone you care about, go to a hike, cook something. There are a ton of better things to do that to stare at a tiny phone screen to play a game. Period.
