Looking forward to this game a lot. The size is maybe problematic, but certainly not a deal-breaker for me. I just hope Sky wont disconnect me for "unfair resource usage" ;-)

Well, I was thinking about getting a new SSD at some point. Maybe I'll a really good one with a decent 500+GB size when this game gets released.
I'm predicting a lot of people will do the same

Gone are the days of programming a game to fit in 48K of memory!

Re: Star Citizen client download expected to be 100GB

Oh well. I knew it would never fit on my 64Gb SSD anyway. Hopefully by the time it releases I can find the cash for an upgrade! So excited by this game at the moment (been following it on reddit/imperialnews.network) and its looking increasingly impressive. Loaded arena commmander last week and the production quality is already very very impressive. My only worry is how the different bits will come together but hopefully it'll all slot together pretty well.

For the record they've announced the FPS module will be available towards the end of the month which looks good (includes a zero G enders game style arena)...

Yeah, I wonder how will it will slot together... Yes theres space combat right now, but will it offer much more than Elite does? And for 15x the budget it should really!

In other news, experts predict a dramatic rise in 500 and 1000 GB SSD sales in 2016.

Re: Star Citizen client download expected to be 100GB

Wowzer, that's one big game! When did games start getting so big again?? Went to download Titanfall the other day and realised it won't fit on my SSD - feels like we're entering a world of having to upgrade not just your GPU but also your storage every time a new game comes out!

Re: Star Citizen client download expected to be 100GB

Titanfall is a bit of a pig though as it downloads 50GB and then decompresses it into place.....meaning you need around 100GB of space to install it.

But games got big when the new consoles released, suddenly all new games had 50GB BD-ROMs to work with AND hard drive space.....finally stopping the stupid over-compressed videos we have had to put up with for years because of PS3/XB360 storage space.

The problem with Star citizen is its even worse than the next gen consoles. Its designed for 4K. I'm sort of surprised they expect it to fit in 100Gb as its 20Gb currently with just two maps, about half the ships and no FPS. When they add in dozens of planets and space stations you can walk around in...

No. Too huge. I wanted this but I'd literally need to be downloading for 2 months to get this.
The only way I'd consider it is if they offered the download in a torrent.

Not a pirated copy. Just a torrent.

Two blu-rays should do it. Not too bad compared to previous Origin games that came on 21 floppies or 6 CDs...

Re: Star Citizen client download expected to be 100GB

100gb for a game is borderline obscene, and obese is a good descriptor - especially when, by their own admission, they aren't bothering to optimize anything other than patch diffs... mmo's. which have worlds that are exponentially larger, and handle orders of magnitude more people at one time, don't take 1/5th the resources.

By comparison, we put man on the moon with computing power that was less than the Timex/Sinclair.

Surely that's the wrong way round for the ps3? Almost all games came on bluray, when the PC was stuck on dvd.

100Gb is insane. It would take several days for me to be able to download that.
