I would laugh so hard if I see in processes:

Guess this is a push towards the small storage in tablet devices.

I find it really hard to have any confidence in a technology like that. How about severe infection? Is that file corruption, or filesystem corruption where metadata has been hosed?Recovery can be done even when even when your device is suffering from "severe corruption," we are told.
I think I would prefer a generic "Create install USB stick" option, and get the rest back from backups.

Very happy with this - particularly the implications for Windows Phone (or whatever it's going to be called in the future). Every byte that can be freed up on my phone is most definitely welcome!

It's good progress and nice to see Microsoft this confident. I think we've had proven file based compression for quite a while now on NTFS, so bringing it to bear (which is my assumption) here is a strong positive

if they can bring improved battery usage, a major failing in my opinion over say os-x, and this it could make the current 'with bing' devices a bit more worthwhile.
Having said that, I'd say this is more a case of dealing with the complaints about lack of free space on their tablets more than anything, there was a lot of comments about how much space windows took up on the surface and surface pro models when they came out.
This is good news
mmmhmm!

Will the footprint be reduced only on a clean install, or will an upgrade from, say, Win 7 also show a reduction?
I think it should be possible to make a controller something like a FPGA to make a wired hardware algorithm like zip to compress and decompress without using CPU and improve storage use and so battery life too.
This could be a very interesting thing.. wait.. I have the next revolution yeah xD
