The ultimate Steambox, huh?
Unless (until) dual-channel DDR4 memory becomes available, anyone who builds one of these may need a friend to split a quad-channel kit with. Perhaps ASRock retailers will offer bundles?
Crucial sell dual channel kits and single sticks of DDR4
I wonder if it will support a Xeon CPU and ECC memory as ASRock's other X99 offerings do.
Whats the point exactly? you can't install massive amounts of ram and the amount of slots negates the benefits of so many PCIE lanes.
Other than DDR4 and 6 cores? In an ITX machine are you really going to be doing rendering or encoding?
While ASRock is even doing mini-ITX X99, Asus has yet to do an mATX X99 board. What the hell are you doing Asus?
I'd get it for a 3D design render node. you can get a nice small box instead of larger matx ones :)
Having said that the lack of 2 ddr4 ram slots kind of ruins it for me unless the 16GB modules become more readily available.
Azrael... it already says it supports xeon :p
I'm sure they will sell a few but I really do not see the point, no game can really take advantage of 6 cores unless you use multiple high-end GPUs....which you aren't really going to shoehorn into a Mini-ITX case.
Motherboard seems pointless, but who makes that heatsink? Have been looking for something like that for my daughter's shoebox PC.
It seems to me to be one of those "because they can" design decisions. I think an ITX X99 board like this just makes too many comprises for me. A compact MATX case & board would be almost as small, with hardly any such compromises.
Obviously a "look at what we can do" product. But it will suit some people down to the ground. Tiny render boxes? I don't know but the accountants for ASRock will have worked out if it's worth the production cost.
This is my next upgrade!! Along with a 600watt sfx Silverstone, titan x, E5 2630, and 16gb Crucial Ballistic!! Epic gaming HTPC!!!#
It actually will many people, like myself, that don't like upgrading as often a chance to feel secure in using this as a means to not worry for almost 5 years.
Pair this up with a Core i7-5960X and Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X for some super-meaty processing in a tiny form factor.
And how will deal with such a cooling system?
