Releasing a motherboard now, with USB3.1 but no PCI-Express 3.0?
Hmmm
Re: Reviews - MSI 970A SLI Krait Edition AMD motherboard first with USB 3.1
Nothing MSI can do about that though

They could add a PCI-E controller chip.

Which pushes up the cost and there is probably not a huge market for expensive AMD chipset motherboards.
More strangely are MSI not aware of Qualcomm's usage of "Krait", are they living in a bubble?

Surely that would still have to connect via the north bridge which would be the bottleneck anyway? Or could they tap straight into the HyperTransport?

No point; 16bit HT3.0 tops out at 10.4GB/s @ 2.6GHz, a single PCIe 2.0 x16 can do 8GB/s, so you'd gain very little from having a PCIe 3.0 slot: at best you'll get some slightly faster inter-GPU communication, but then we all know that being limited to PCIe 2.0 is not going to significantly impact your in-game performance with a decent CPU and GPU.
OTOH, yes, AMD desperately need to do something about their "enthusiast" platform...

LOL at the "Type R" USB 3.1 marketing.

I *think* that says "Type A" - as oppose to the reversible Type-C, presumably...?

Maybe in the next desktop socket, but for now it's pointless. Only the Asus Sabertooth, at a hilarious premium, supports it, and what with GPUs all supporting PCI-E 2 why bother?

Type A. As in, it's the standard USB shape, not the reversible Type C not recently announced, or the Type B which is the type you see on most printers which is square with the top 2 corners rounded off.

We're not saturating 2.0 yet so don't worry about it. Don't know if titan x and 390x will but you'll probably be buying a nicer Mobo then this.
