QOTW: Should daylight saving time be abolished?

I don't really see the point of it. It's getting dark at 21:00 now, what exactly are we saving?

As I said in an earlier post, it isn't saving anything, it is about making optimum use of daylight in winter. If summer time ie UTC +1,ran throught the year, sunrise would be around 9 am in the South of England and after 10 in the North of Scotland. Sunset would be at around 6:30 in the South and earlier in the North.

By putting the clocks back, sunrise in an hour earlier, so most people are travelling to work/school in some sort of natural light, and travelling back under the same conditions.

If UTC was kept throughout the year, sunrise would be at around 4aM when most people are asleep, and sunset around 8:30 when most people are still out and about. Changing the clocks gives better use of daylight within our daily life patterns.

Of course we could be like the Romans who rose at sunrise and went to bed at sunset, regardless of the time of year. ( which works as you get nearer the equator because the hours of daylight don't vary by so much between Summer and Winter)

Most countries change their clocks to take account of seasonal variations in daylight hours.

Definitely should be done away with... I haven't seen any real benefit.

I think we should scrap it to suit all the fat asses working in offices who only go outside when its nice and sunny; forget about the outdoor workers and farmers, they're all poor anyway.

My answer is an emphatic YES - I hate this disruptive anachronism.
If some people want to get up an hour earlier or later at different times of the year then let them, personally I could really do without having my sleep disrupted!
