At the moment, that can only TRANSMIT over RF, not receive, so that 2m range does not mean you can form a mesh network with a larger volume. If you can place local nodes everywhere this could be neat for niche applications, but it's not a pervasive scatterable sensor net yet.

If M^3 is implanted or stuffed down a (presumably dark) oil well or deep in the human body, then how the heck is it supposed to recharge? Or is this really a short-term-use-only device?

Maybe this device is intended for implanting and daylight recharging as part of the Great Societies obedience to The Beast of Revelation's demand that all who wish to buy or sell display '666' the Mark of the Beast on their forehead where it can easily be scanned by CCTV or on their hands where it can be scanned by POS readers.
Anyone without 666 will have to rely on charity of friends for food and sustenance.
