The new Star Trek was amazeballs and I didn't even like Star Trek until Abrams did it. I have confidence that it's going to be a helluva lot better than the prequels. Nothing can replace the original trilogy as they hold sentimental places in our childhood hearts. But lets hope a fun franchise can be built out with the spirit of the original but which is also not afraid to evolve. They will do this in the same way that the James Bond movies keep going and let's face it, the whole point of Disney paying $41bn or whatever for the franchise was for this to happen. It was dead with Lucas so this is my 'New Hope'. rofl.

This is the main point of criticism people have for Abrams Trek though. A lot of the older Trek fans thing he turned it into too much of an action film rather than what Trek actually is. Thats partly fault of the medium ofcourse, and Star Wars is a lot closer to what Abrams Trek turned out to be than say Trek TNG but despite the (rather silly) rivalry between Trek and Wars fans, I think theres a bit of fear in the air that Abrams Wars might end up straying from its roots heavily also.

Ofcourse part of that is fear of change but some of it is justified too, fanservice thrown into Into Darkness for example.
