Gosh. This could revolutionise the electric car industry. I wonder what the tech is? Will it be available for mobile phone makers? (Really don't care about the (smart)watch side of things)

Swatch would make an absolute killing from licencing this technology for use in phones, tablets, laptops etc. Although, probably it would be better for them if they didn't licence it for smartwatches.

I've recently picked up a Microsoft Band, previously I'd dismissed smart watches as a passing fad. However too much time spent in airports normally leads me to buying things I don't really need.
The result is, I like having a watch with some smart features and health tracking. The battery life is a large drawback, realistically the MS Band lasts around 2 days. If the battery lasted 6 months I don't think I'd go back to a traditional watch.

That's a LONG way from actually having the tech........are swatch desperate for funding or something?

That's like two orders of magnitude more energy density. That's not just disruptive, that's alien technology or something.

However, maybe the battery can recharge from motion, body heat, or something, as you are wearing it.

Key word here is the 'developing', plus there is no detail on the tech in the watch, with 6 month battery they imply they have a eink style screen, instead of a full colour touch screens of some competitors. If it could supply a Watch from Apple with 6 months battery life, I would be proper impressed, but unlikely.

I've been getting excited about amazing battery technologies for years and not one of them has materialised. UNTIL such a thing is in production and you can buy it I will remain unmoved. Next!

Totally agree. What happened to all the hype about Graphene Batteries, Processors, Superconductive-Wires, etc etc

kinetic style charging would be ideal for smart watches, and mobile phones, of course with normal charging options available too

I'm still waiting for that oven where you speak into it and it produces whatever you asked for on demand. I saw that on TV when I was only a child but that still hasn't materialised in the shops. this guy on the bus told me it was government suppression. Given the obesity hype I can see why but surely we could give a few of those machines to starving people in Africa and the like?
