SLI Graphics on a single card @ Tom's Hardware Guide

The boffins at Gigabyte have put together a graphics card featuring two NVIDIA GPU's, connected using SLI technology. This essentially brings SLI to a single card. THG has more:
The card integrates two Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT graphics processors and is the first 6600 GT card on the market to offer a total of 256 MByte DDR 3 memory and 256 Mbit of memory bandwidth, according to the manufacturer. The card is cooled by two on-board fans.
    Check it out here!

    hrmmm...

I wonder if you'd be able to use two of these cards on a SLI capable motherboard and essentially have a quad-core SLI setup?

'tis possible i guess - would be awesome

I believe more than 2 cores in an SLI setup is possible - something NVIDIA are planning at least, but I'm not sure if current cores can handle it.

Somebody will clarify the issue for us, I'm sure.

Is that an AGP card or SLI only?

I cant tell from the picture, but it looks AGP.

its pci-e, and it says it "communicates through sli interface" which means you have to have an sli board, defying the point?

    looks beastly noone the less

"The 3D1's two processors communicate through Nvidia's SLI interface"
That could mean the card itself has an on-board SLI interface.

Now that I've picked my jaw off the floor, I can't help but wonder if the hassles of 2 6600 cores in SLI aren't more trouble than they're worth. Sometimes they will outperform a 6800, but much of the time they won't. And my eyes just glazed over when reading about the various modes of operation of an SLI setup.

i don't think it will work with 2 of these cards in an SLI machine simply because i can't see the adapater that is supposed to link these cards.

i wonder why according to gainward these outperform 6800ultra's yet having 2 normal 6600gt's in sli does not seem to do this.. Presumably they are still using AFR or SFR rendering so would be limited by thier consraints

Nope cos the SLI bridge is allready in use and also the card doesn't have the normal bit on it that allows you to connect the cards together.

possibly because the first graphics chip avoids going through the motherboard to talk to the other chip, as they're both on the same card?

I've heard (unconfirmed) reports of people running SLi successfully without that little jobby on there.
I think the reason they tried it was because with some motherboards the 2 slots are further away from each other to accomodate the crappy dustbuster style coolers, and the PCB thingy obviously wouldnt fit.

You can run dual graphics cards without the connector, question is the performance will not be the same.

    Cheers for that.

Still, the fact that the card has 2 chips allready using the sli bridge wud sugest to me that adding another wud not work but then i no nothing of the new way sli is being used over the old 3dfx sli way.

You could fry two eggs on that graphics card, simultaneously, impressive.
