Windows 8.1 surpasses Windows XP in the desktop OS market

But Windows 7 is still very much ahead with over 60 per cent of the market.

I don't get it! I find windows 7 rather clunky how and don't get me started on XP!
Got to love the 'there be beasties here' brigade, I for one will be installing Windows 10 day 1 and never look back... Mind you I was more than happy with Windows ME at the time.. Guess I just deal with issues rather than whine about them :-)
Re: Windows 8.1 surpasses Windows XP in the desktop OS market
I think windows 7 fell like a old OS system. I help people somtime with there pc and windows 7 just fell old and outdated.

Doing a day one upgrade is a bit silly, should you not wait and read the reviews to find out if it's any good first ?
I'd have to disagree about windows 7 feeling clunky to if compared against windows 8/ 8.1. I actually felt so bad about suggesting windows 8 to my mother and all the problems she had with it that I went out and bought her a boxed copy of windows 7 which she is very happy with.
I didn't mind millennium though it just seemed like a slightly polished win 95.

Windows 10 has it's work cut out.

A fanboy doesn't need to concern himself with silly little things like objective and rational evaluations.

Seems rather odd to admit there are issues and just deal with them, if your not happy with a meal in a restaurant do you just deal with that?
Personally I would complain, or as you put it whine about it, but I guess some people would be happy to just put up with things their not happy about.
Re: Windows 8.1 surpasses Windows XP in the desktop OS market
Can't see a Win 10 upgrade being a big risk myself. After all it's heavily based on Win 8 (which is rock solid and fast) just with a new GUI and some extra features (like XP was with Windows 2000). Its also had lots of testing via the preview builds. I'll likely upgrade day one too as I still don't like the full size start screen on 8.1.

Now, now. For all you know he's been running the beta for the last few months and has been very happy with it like me :P

Talk about being damned with faint praise.
Re: Windows 8.1 surpasses Windows XP in the desktop OS market
In the home market I've certainly not come across XP for some time now.
I continue to use it as a nice lightweight VM though.
In my line of work 90% of our clients' computers are still using XP or one of its Embedded variants, so I have to keep all my knowledge on it for some time yet.

Not even Vista was that bad (I had plenty of RAM). 10 has been extensively tested and is such a small change from 8 (unlike 7 to 8 or XP to Vista) so the risk is even smaller.

I did too Cheesemp. I never had any problems either, I wonder what happened to other people's systems to make upgrades so bad?
Business's you can understand they need a fair bit of testing.

LOL.. Not a fanboy .. just willing to deal with issues and modify my behaviour to suit rather than need things to stay the same.
To be fair, I have been following the pre-release using VMware so I already know what I am signing up for and hence the day 1 upgrade.
