Are HTC finally going to get some competition, after 3 uncontested years of having the best speakers? Shame it's only got a not-so-snappy Snapdragon 410, though.

Actually more tempted. I don't know how big that is in the hand, but if the display's good, and the battery life is good then I'd give it a look.

Re: Marshall Amplification crashes loudly into smartphone market

I thought one of the selling points of Marshall amps was the fact they still used thermionic valves! I was rather looking forward to a smartphone using the same technology, although perhaps not very portable..... Battery life might be an issue too!

    £400!!!!!!

    Ooo, it's not 1st April.

Still like many things that are brand name, pricey, poor specs & quality it will probably sell bucket loads to people with more money than brains.

Why do you say it's poor quality? I thought the Hexus article implied it might be quite premium.

Good to see Marshall pushing the android envelope but the kind of people who this is marketed, would they not use more dedicated hardware for there recording purposes. I doubt that the mic would be as good as a dedicated microphone.

I think most people would like a phone that can last more than a day without a charge than a phone that has dual headphone jacks and multi format support.

I buy phones purely for the look, specs mean absolutely nothing to me as day to day it just doesn't make a tangible difference, and I really like the look of this phone.

Also most phones don't quite go loud enough for my tastes and I bet this would let me push it

Of course it won't rival the mic and the quality will leave a lot to be desired compared to any pro kit, but I don't carry my DSLR around with me all of the time and am perfectly happy to use my smartphone camera to capture the moment.

Whether any of it is actually any good is another matter however.

    Hahaha sup alex long time.

Yeah re-reading it I can see that but it's true. I know I'm supposed to care about spec and all that jazz but...I just don't. I've used a butt-ton of phones, even tried the new S6 and usage wise I can't tell it apart from an M8.

The other thing is though I actually prefer windows phone *ducks*...OK STOP THROWING STUFF.

I hate iOS, 90% because I hate Apple products, but the other 10% is I hate the way the UI works. The same applies to Android, I hate the way it's just a collection of icons on a background, it reminds me of the days when I would see my desktop. I tried windows phone when 7 first came out and loved it, the cleanliness of the tile system was just up my alley. Then they improved it with different sized tiles and I just love it.

The thing is I barely use a phone. I HATE phones - less than 30 people have my phone number and I change it every year if not more. I use a smart phone for a distraction now and again and maybe some web browsing but I don't do pics (eat your god damn food before it gets god damn cold you god damn idiot) and I won't use it while I'm around other people, I just find it ignorant.

I do use it as an MP3 player more than anything else though, and years of working in clubs and..well, clubbing, have ruined my hearing so I'm always after something that goes a bit louder. Gen 1 iPods could really blow an ear drum, but since then they've restricted it for our own protection (which I'm totally for).

So TL;DR Nope, serious, don't like phones, just want a loud MP3 player as I have ****e ears

Re: Marshall Amplification crashes loudly into smartphone market

Mixed views about this phone. Love the high quality DAC and the looks, rest is a bit "meh". Actually my first thought was that this is actually a high resolution audio player that can do the smartphone thing as a side order.

Personally if Marshall want to do smartphones then I'd say they'd have been better to focus on accessories. Obvious one is an external DAC to compete with the likes of Fiio's Kunlun, other idea would be an audio dock with Marshall styling.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Shame about the mid-range innards - I quite liked the look/idea behind this one.

...although to be honest, I'd rather they focused on decent audio through the headphones as I'd never use my phone for music through the speakers anyway.

They've focused on that too - there's supposedly a good DAC/soundcard, and dual headphone out means higher fidelity listening with a friend.
