Can they not at least do this with volunteer humans?
There are plenty of students and penniless candidates, who can give far more complex and comprehensive feedback than rats... and since you just KNOW this is where we're headed anyway, why not cut to the chase and leave animals out of it?
Its amaizing but they are just rats, and it isn't really that much of a calculation.
