Tell me AMD did not just provide a 'fps/inch' metric? *shakes head*

It feels very wrong, but tbh I can't think of a better way to measure density given a two slot constraint such that only one dimension actually matters for dimension, and performance matters else you can point to a £20 passive card and go "but that one is smaller".

    But just *so* jarring.

I was half expecting a cheeky campaign from AMD - would make a change from the mildly over-corporate image on the website

Can we have a link to the supposed "official Heaven benchmarks"?

A lot of cards play fairly loose with the 2 slot specification and also extend heatsinks above the PCI backplate, so I'd personally prefer a fps/cm3

Above the backplate has always been allowed.

    FPS per inch... oh my.....

Why are they benching this at 4k resolution as well? Surely that's not what this card is aimed at? 6 inch card gets 24fps. big whoop.
    R290 vapor X was 11 inches - and at 1.6fps/inch thats 17.6fps.

Not exactly numbers to get excited about.

So, any high performance SINGLE SLOT cards being released any time soon? Would be so useful in small form factor PCs

As it's part of the Fury line-up and uses the Fiji XT GPU, yes, it does use HBM.

Oh, I know it's part of the spec - but the Nano doesn't go above the backplate, so they'd look even better in a volume-based comparison. I'm going to retract my call for fps/cm3 though - in keeping with the fps/inch concept it should clearly be fps/fl. oz.!

    EDIT:

AFAIK it's very hard to dissipate more than ~ 100W with a single slot cooler, and even then you're on the ragged edge of what's possible. AMD found that out when they tried a single slot 4850 and got hammered for it running hot and being very loud. And fo course, by the time we get current high end performance in a sub-100W thermal envelope, it won't be high performance any more!

The only way to effectively cool a high end card in a single slot is with a custom water block - but then you're looking for somewhere to house a pump, rad and fans too. So no, there won't be any high performance single slot cards suitable for small factor PCs released soon.

    LOL

This card is looks very promising but I wasn't expecting for a while yet. I'll have to start saving my pennies.

Quick question. Will the Nano outperform the air cooled Fury (Fiji-pro) in benchmarking and gaming?.
