So 75million pc's have had it installed... Personally I'm more interested in how many have reverted back to their old os for 'privacy' and or compatibility/stability issues...

As to the 6x store downloads, pretty easy to 'fake' the 6x increase by making the 'default' apps be downloaded instead of being installed. Having said that I can't say I've ever gone out of my way to get modern apps on windows 8.

Not upgraded a single PC yet.

2 are running media centre one doesn't have support sound drivers and can't be fussed with the others yet.

I don't think using an older version of Windows makes you safe from their corrupted eyes.

I'm assuming the numbers exclude 'beta' channels and is only counting 'upgrades' so it is only x86/x64 based pc and tablets (which for all intense purposes are a pc). They may be including IOT versions for Rasberry Pi.

The Xbox isn't running win 10 yet, a preview is out next month with full release planned for November, the phones are still on preview versions with expected roll out around October/November iirc.

Therefore my comment of 75 Million pc's is correct

Safer though. Because previous versions don't have some of the elements built-in that do the snooping, like Cortana, and MS can't force installations if you have auto-update turned off, and are selective in what you allow to update.

The only way to really be safe is not to put any personal info on your devices, or not to go online at all.

Of course, most people won't do that.

More so than with a version that comes with a bunch of cloud based features built into it, although saying that Microsoft have been very insistent lately when it comes to getting users to install updates that add a slew of new "telemetry" data points to older versions of Windows, along with updating older versions to facilitate the upgrading to Windows 10 even though an upgrade may never be done.

The anti-snooping settings have been well documented on a few websites and are easily turned off if a little distributed between the OS, Edge browser, and a collection of other apps. If you don't want the auto updates then get the Pro version and you can then defer them.

It's really not hard to retain control of your own Windows 10 PC and it's data with minimal effort, but of course if you just want to faceroll your installation then you get just the same as any other "free" OS which spies on you just the same, if not moreso. If it bothers you that much then you could just get yourself a chromebook ... oh wait.

Given the choice between the evil of Microsoft slurping my data and the evil of Google slurping my data, I know which one I trust more. I'm happy to share my non-identifiable data in order for a company to monetise it through which funds free software, but Google crosses the line to the point that many business go out of their way to keep Google devices and services off of their networks. Microsoft, whilst they might eventually head that way, have yet to transgress that line in quite the same way. Google's reputation is already beyond repair.

So because one company does it that makes it OK for others?
If someone kills 20 people that doesn't suddenly make it OK to kill someone.

Well I think W10 is excellent and very stable. I have it on an MSi self built gaming Desktop, a Dell Laptop and a Surface Pro 3. If you think Google and Apple are any better/safer think again.

Re: Windows 10 installs hit 75 million after just four weeks

Do the figures account for people uninstalling Windows 10 after being unhappy with it?

I like it, however, my issues are mainly to do with updates and bloatware. The system itself is great!

Lets maintain some perspective here. There is a world of difference between murder and you clicking on a "I Accept" button at the bottom of a page which clearly outlines all the T and C's which you never read and just click on anyway. There are no secrets to what's going on and you're implying that it is all somehow underhand, when it's not.

You have a choice to install, or not. So either put up or ... go back to reading the Daily Mail.
