ok so firstly there is no such thing as a "fast lane" and if someone is overtaking they are allowed to use the outside lane. If that happens to be slower than the speed you're doing then tough, you'll have to wait. I presume you're not one of those idiot drivers speeding in the outside lane and sitting dangerously close to cars legitimately doing the speed limit just because you want to break the law?

Firstly I used that reference in this manner "A passing lane is often colloquially referred to as a fast lane" quote from Wikipedia. And just to give you a frame of reference and verification of my meaning check out this article http://www.caradvice.com.au/3125/is-...-in-australia/ In the years since this was written, the situation has only gotten worse.
Oh, and just to let you know we have some roads here which have derestricted speed limits (this actually reduced road fatalities) - meaning there is no legal limit, so don't stay in the FAST LANE illegally.
No I am not one of those idiot drivers you mentioned and besides I hate people driving to close.
What I was trying to do was introduce some cartoon humour and related it to the situation here where we get idiots who ignore the law and drive well under the speed limit in that overtaking lane and block any egress when they sit beside other slow moving vehicles like semis. Fortunately our laws permit us to undertake, it is just not the safest procedure.
Very frustrating when we get so many inconsiderate idiots on our roads. Can I presume you are not one of them?

My broadband speed - 750 Meganibbles/minute
I had to read this twice, then laughed out loud when I realised what you had there.
I hadn't heard anyone mention nibbles in a while, is this correct 8 bits, 2 nibbles to a byte?

I was allowed to go on a ride-along in an unmarked police Audi motorway car a few years ago, when some idiot did that while we were doing about 70 in the outside lane, in a queue passing slower-moving lorries. Watching his reaction when the driver of the car I was in blipped the blues on was, to say the least, satisfying.
Even more satisfying was watching said idiot when the road opened into three lanes about two miles up the road. My car's driver stayed in lane 2, due to traffic in lane 1, but at 70.0 mph. I could almost smell the idiot's frustration as he tried to work out whether to risk edging past. Fortunately for him, he passed the test, and didn't. We pulled off about 10 miles later, much to the relief, I suspect, of the idiot.
I've often wondered if he learned anything from that experience? Probably not.

I very much doubt it.
I saw a WVM the other day hurtle up lane 2 past a queue of about 7 cars in lane 3 trying to get round the overtaking lorry in lane 2. He then shoved in at high speed to lane 3 relying totally on the willingness/ability of the cars in lane 3 to slam on the anchors. Most dangerous thing I've seen in years. And nowhere a copper to be seen. This speed camera BS really needs scrapping and proper traffic coppers putting back on the roads.
Re: Boeing compact laser weapon destroys drone in 15 seconds
Annother anecdote. I wasn't in the car this time, but the police driver was a close relative.
Scene. A long, straight road, two-lanes one each way, built-up area. 40 mph limit. Date? About 50 years ago, mid '60s, much lighter traffic volumes.
Anyway .... a car comes hurtling up, doing about 65-70 mph, to the back of a queue of about 10 cars, all doing 40. This time, idiot decides to overtake. All of them. So, out he pops, whips up the outside, only to discover that the front car in the queue of 10 was .... yup, correct, a police car with my relative at the wheel.
So, the idiot .... and this was the exact description from my relative .... smiled a kind-of sickly grin at the police officer he'd finally noticed, who admitted he was smirking at the idiot, then the idiot slowly dropped back past the 10 cars and tucked himself nearly on the back of the queue.
:D

If it was the 60s and his car was good enough to hold 80+ for long stretches at a time, chances are he might have out-run the police! It all comes down then to whether the copper could remember his licence plate.
