So this is competing with the larger Surface Pro devices then...

Anyone got a price comparison table ready yet?

The A9X sounds interesting (where's the A9?), it will be fun to see how it compares CPU-wise and GPU-wise with the ULV Skylakes and Atoms used in the Windows 10 devices.

I personally like the iPad Pro, and the Pencil Stylus seems like a decent innovation as I've found most styluses severely lacking. I wonder if it'll be rootable to other tablets/devices or at least other iOS devices...?

I was literally laughing all through the announcement.... they've basically made a surface pro running iOS... that's not exactly a 'pro' platform in my opinion but each to their own. I don't want to do my CAD/Graphic work in a limited program with limited ram....

I honestly can't see the big deal compared to the Samsung S-Pen that's been out for years. I've got one that looks like a pencil, even to having a (working!) eraser at the other end. Remember that the S-Pen is a Wacom design, so it's pressure-sensitive and doesn't even have to touch the screen to be usable, (which can be handy if you're trying to trace something).

I should think Samsung are also having a good laugh - basically "see we told you large screens and styluses made sense". Can't honestly see who - apart from the "creatives" - would want this when the Surface Pro is cheaper and more flexible. Think I'll go back to my 10" Note tablet that was less than 1/2 the price of this iPad Pro.

""faster than 80% of the processors of portable PCs that were shipped in the last 12 months". The SoC's GPU has been improved an even greater amount and is now "faster than 90% of the graphics of the portable PCs shipped,"" I would like to know what he considers a "Portable PC" because last time I checked an ultra-book is very much going to blow this thing out of the water as far as compute power if it has an i7 and dedicated GPU in it, such as a GTX 960m or 970m.

Simply because it is new to Apple devices, does not make it an innovation

Re: Apple unveils the 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablet

Im sorry.I Really want to love this but i cant. This is an unwieldy tablet costing as much, if not more than premium fully fledged laptops running high end core i5s/i7s Compared to this comparatively weak sauce what i presume to be arm based soc with a mobile os designed for phones and light tablet use. The apps on it are utter crap from a productivity standpoint (referring to word etc as people using this device will want to work from the cloud) And any gains to be had on the battery froNt are totally negated by the fAct that any decent level of productivity simply wont be achievable at the same speed as seen on a laptop or dare is say with the surface pro with and i7 and 8gbs ram. As far as the keyboard and pen go its things weve seen before and are not innovations in any sense of the word. At this point apple is just following the crowd into two in ones as its one of the only Parts of the tablet market seeing posative sales figures without bringing so much as a sliver of innovation. In my humble opinion i think that if they werent apple they would be headed for an original surface style disaster (as that had a crappy arm based cpu and a scaled down os) But of course since its apple people will shell out extortionate amounts of money for this thing and defend it with their life. No change here

Another Apple product that never would have been allowed to exist under the Steve Jobs regime! I'm sure they'll sell millions, but the use case is pretty slim when you stack it up against a Surface Pro.

Basically it's only going to sell to people who secretly want a Surface Pro but are too completely entrenched in the Apple 'ecosystem' (I know, ) to make the switch.

I think you need to lookup the definition of innovation, my friend. All I see is a bunch of copycat products and the usual pretentious marketing with, at least with this years announcement, a large dash of hypocrisy. Cocks.

That's pretty much my opinion too - after a quick look around at Dell, HP etc the only plus for the new iPad is that high res screen. For example £799 gets you a Dell Inspiron 13-7000 that's got an i7 processor and double the storage - plus a LOT more expandability.

    Sorry Apple, no sale.

Re: Apple unveils the 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablet

So this cartoon is doing the rounds, the artist clearly nailed this back in 2012.

Apple are an oddity, 10 years ago I'd have just described them as one of those cancers, but they market stuff so well. They seize trends, often quite late to the game, but they market the hell out of them and generally get good success bringing it to the mainstream (Apple TV, thunderbolt notwithstanding). On the whole I think that is a great positive.

Now if only ObjectiveC and Swift weren't so god damned awful, granted not PHP awful, but still, ergh.
