It looks interesting I have a hard time using controllers for FPS but using wasd gives me rsi these days so controllers are my only option this seems like it could be a good bridge.
Assuming it'll work well alongside a Microsoft controller, I might get one of these instead of an XBO controller as a second unit. The first part's important, though - if they can't be used concurrently for Rocket League, Gang Beasts, etc then it's more of a gamble.
so... does that mean games with no native controller support will work with it without fiddling with some other 3rd party software like xpadder or whatever?
I use an Xbox 360 controller for platformers and rarely for fps as I prefer kbm. With the lack of premium choice out there these days this looks interesting. Id like to use my TV more for the platformers.
I never got on with controllers. When I first started playing FPS games (going back a while...) I used keyboard only (trololol), but since adding a mouse to the equation somewhere well before Y2K, I've just never seen the need or point of controllers. Probably because I'm predominantly an FPS gamer (I do have a wheel/pedals etc for racing games though). Still, I'm on a par with mates playing geometry wars 3 (they use controllers, I use the keyboard/mouse). It's what you're used to I suppose. More competition is a good thing!
When I use my KB&M, specifically for RPG's and some RTS's, I often have many hot keys at my finger tips. The Steam controller promised us the ability to bring those with us as that's the biggest difference between a normal controller and a keyboard. Precision is second sure, but the lack of buttons mean many games are unplayable.
Sadly Valve have backtracked from the concept, going from a custom touch screen to 8 buttons, to the now final 2 buttons at the top.
Now its an xbox controller with funky pads. nothing more. It can not replace a kb&m combo.
I am planing to buy one, I have few games that are optimized for a controller.
I don't like consoles at all, I have a controller from Speedlink it was ok but
when I switched from XP to 7 it doesn't worked anymore, the support from
Speedlink was a joke or no support and driver at all, they told me by a another
controller. I never ever buy any crap from Speedlink again.
I checked ou few other controllers lately but I like the Steam most,
so I am looking forward to get one finaly.
I'm sure to buy one but highly doubt it will see any use past the first week.
I'll buy your 2nd hand one off you a few weeks later if you like? 3rd hand is my way of thinking, just so I can try the new pads.
Just checked http://store.steampowered.com/hardware/ and it's showing at £39.99 though which is fair given Xbone/PS4 controller prices. Saying that I did pick up my second PS4 controller from cash converter (new boxed) for £30 so I agree with the sentiment. I'd like to see a couple of quick off for the bundle so I can leave a computer upstairs and game on the couch.
Thanks for the correction, don't know where I got 50 from. Still I'd feel safer buying an XB1 or PS4 controller than one of these, for the moment, as they are known quantities.
40 is also quite expensive to drop on potentially gimmicky hardware!
