Oculus-Ready??!!
I thought the whole point was that most of our existing high-end(ish) PCs were already ready?
Re: AMD Partners with Oculus and Dell to power Oculus Ready PCs

Depends which GPU you've got...
Re: AMD Partners with Oculus and Dell to power Oculus Ready PCs
Oculus probably tried VR with the GTX970 and decided to call AMD.
Makes sense to partner up with AMD considering the demand virtual reality headsets will place on asynchronous compute engine of the cards. Plus is seems like Liquid VR has had a lot of time and effort put into it from AMD.
Re: AMD Partners with Oculus and Dell to power Oculus Ready PCs
Not async compute at all, just low latency path to render.
Re: AMD Partners with Oculus and Dell to power Oculus Ready PCs
And that's what Async compute offers.

<--- That one.
Supposedly it's well above the DK2 requirements...

The CV1 requires a 970 or 290, your 780 lacks important features that the 970 has (MRS) that might bring it up to parity with the 290 otherwise.
Obviously if you were upgrading you'd be looking at a bigger jump than either though.

Oh well. No VR for me this decade, then....

Probably best to wait. Having used all the DKs, I am at the point where waiting is a darn sight better then buying a ton of travel sickness pills and putting myself through sickness training sessions to be able to game!
It's an interesting tech but one which I'll let others fund while the problems are identified and resolved.
Re: AMD Partners with Oculus and Dell to power Oculus Ready PCs
It's a good move from Oculus to partner with well known and trusted names.

As far as AMD goes, they only had a 50/50 choice...

I was mainly interested in it for Elite and other such games.
DK1 and 2 users report that it's much more suited to those kinds of games, rather than FPSey ones where you do get the sickness.
So whaddya reckon - New GPU now, or wait for the next gen (R9 490X, or whatever it will be) to become affordable?
