Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

And email registration. Standard drivers will still be downloadable via the Nvidia website.

Great, in theory gf experience was good idea, you can load optimized setting for your game. Now everytime there is a new driver, it takes around 5 min to complete - first it checks for its own update then god knows what, now it wants my email , are you ***&* kidding me?!

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

Why do you need to register an email address to download a driver?

Seems Nvidia is moving from a marketing based company to an advertising company.

Presume you'll be able to get drivers from the usual mirrors still?

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

If you elect not to use GeForce Experience new drivers will only be made available quarterly for regular download. If you want the updated drivers on release you'll now be forced to use GFE. That's fine in my case, as on average I don't update more frequently than quarterly anyway. I imagine lots of people will be pretty pissed though and rightly so.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

Hell will freeze over before i buy any hardware that comes with mandated registration with the manufacturer, granted what Nvidia have plans to do isn't a mandatory requirement but even restricting the latest's drivers on that basis maybe a step to far for me, i guess they will still be available via third party sites so it may not be that bad.

They totally broke unregistered driver updates, why should registration make driver updates work any better?

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

I never install GFE and never will. You only need the graphics driver from the set....Extract everything from the downloaded file with 7zip or Winrar and manually install the driver via device manager. FU GFE.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

This makes no sense to me. Allow Nvidia to advertise to you or wait three months for the lastest driver that you have already paid for in full and paid a premium at that no less. What a stupid idea this is.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

Well...I'm screwed. I like geforce experience, but I HAVE to download my drivers, as I need to mod them for my laptop and install it by disabling unsigned drivers. How do I get my new drivers now?

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

oh joy another company jumping on the 'track users and advertise' bandwagon. You shouldn't need to register just to get an updated driver...

I've never installed geforce experience either, to me it's just another piece of junkware wasting space on my ssd, actually I don't install any of the bit's I'm not actually going to use.

I'd also love to know where Nvidia got that 90% driver stat from because I'm going to say that seems rather high, hardly anyone seems to like it lol. Or are they just assuming 'installed' (it's installed by default last time I checked) means people use it....mind you this is Nvidia and you do need to take some of what they say with a pinch of salt.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

I found it takes way longer downloading the latest driver using geforce experience, also the driver updates are normally useless unless you have just bought a recent AAA title. So to sum up, quarterly driver updates should do just fine for me

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

It's probably fine if you don't use the card for gaming but then why would you use the bloatware. Waiting three months for a driver update for a new game though.... not going to happen and I like others don't use middleware and get annoyed when it's forced on my machine. I don't want Nvidia updating drivers automatically or even looking for drivers updates and everyone knows Windows10 is going to be a proper pain in the arse for a year or two so three months wait is a ridiculous amount of time to hold out for a fix.

Wait three months for driver update.... with Nvidia's track record... How about no I'll buy AMD instead.

Re: Nvidia Game Ready Drivers to require GeForce Experience

I have a question...this might (will) step on some toes.

Does any of this Really freaking matter? Oh no, there's, like, one little ad on my program...while it's downloading...an update...?

Oh, I don't want to use this "bloatware" (looks nicer than any of the other NVIDIA GUIs imo, plus Shadowplay works great) on my 32 GiB DDR4, Quad-980Ti 8-core, 3TB RAID0 SSD System! It makes things so much slower!

So freaking what if it takes longer. Driver downloads are never fast! Are you on your device 24/7? Do you sleep for more than 2 hours a day? Can you pull your face away from Reddit for that long?

And then the whole tracking users thing. I personally like personalized advertising. It's a win-win for me. What, are you scared that Google or NVIDIA or Microsoft or Apple is going to giggle at your porn collection? People need to get over themselves. We're not special and it's not like what we look at is going to matter to anyone. The only thing I would be paranoid about is secure information such as SSN, credit cards, etc. but every major company has those already, every time you swipe a card or tap an NFC!

Like I said a few times, this is my personal opinion. I guess if you like living in the past it's up to you. I for one will be moving forward.

    /rant

It rather sounds like you're the one who feel yourself to be special, given that you apparently think that your opinions ought to be shared by all and that because you don't care, no-one else should do so either.

It's really very simple: the way things work at present, everyone gets to do what they prefer. Install GFE, don't install GFE; both are fine. The way you seem to favour, I have to do it your way and install a program I have no earthly use for and which provides absolutely nothing I need.

So which one of us is feeling special would you say?
