    Re: Microsoft starts to ship Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

    I'm sure some (many?) will have a problem with it being Windows 10 only.....although I don't care too much. I am more worried about how that $80 will translate to GBP!

    I am miffed at this part though:

    Microsoft recommends you check out its own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
    If only we had a release date......let alone an actual product!
    Main PC: Asus Rampage IV Extreme / 3960X@4.5GHz / Antec H1200 Pro / 32GB DDR3-1866 Quad Channel / Sapphire Fury X / Areca 1680 / 850W EVGA SuperNOVA Gold 2 / Corsair 600T / 2x Dell 3007 / 4 x 250GB SSD + 2 x 80GB SSD / 4 x 1TB HDD (RAID 10) / Windows 10 Pro, Yosemite & Ubuntu
    HTPC: AsRock Z77 Pro 4 / 3770K@4.2GHz / 24GB / GTX 1080 / SST-LC20 / Antec TP-550 / Hisense 65k5510 4K TV / HTC Vive / 2 x 240GB SSD + 12TB HDD Space / Race Seat / Logitech G29 / Win 10 Pro
    HTPC2: Asus AM1I-A / 5150 / 4GB / Corsair Force 3 240GB / Silverstone SST-ML05B + ST30SF / Samsung UE60H6200 TV / Windows 10 Pro
    Spare/Loaner: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 / i950 / 12GB / HD7870 / Corsair 300R / Silverpower 700W modular
    NAS 1: HP N40L / 12GB ECC RAM / 2 x 3TB Arrays || NAS 2: Dell PowerEdge T110 II / 24GB ECC RAM / 2 x 3TB Hybrid arrays || Network:Buffalo WZR-1166DHP w/DD-WRT + HP ProCurve 1800-24G
    Laptop: Dell Precision 5510 Printer: HP CP1515n || Phone: Huawei P30 || Other: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Pro 10.1 CM14 / Playstation 4 + G29 + 2TB Hybrid drive

    Oh, so I need to change my OS to support a gamepad? Maybe I'll go Steam instead...

    Re: Microsoft starts to ship Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

    Well $25 for the adaptor on its own its pretty good value would imagine be £20, the $80 is for the adaptor and a game pad so probably a sensible price.

    Also a release date for what? MS are shipping the device and Gears of War Ultimate edition is out and you can go buy it now, so not sure what you mean shaithis

    Re: Microsoft starts to ship Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

    I wonder what the range will be, I currently have my PC upstairs and play games on the TV downstairs, currently my 360 controllers are happy about this but would an X1 controller.

    As for windows 10, no problem here, windows 8.2... I mean 10 works great.

    Had this on pre order for weeks at Game, it was £15, now £20.

    Got a link to the PC version? I cannot find it for sale anywhere, nor do I expect it this soon after the XBO release.

    Re: Microsoft starts to ship Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

    I'll stick to my 360 pads, i'm definitely not 'upgrading' from win7 to win10 just for an xbone pad or even dx12. My Nvidia pad is also nice to use too but requires being plugged in to the PC, but hey at least it works on multiple OS's !

    Re: Microsoft starts to ship Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

    Win 10 only.... got to say MS are seeming a little desperate to push people onto their software/hardware of late and it's not a good look in my view. Starting to make me think there is an ulterior motive hidden in those t&c's....

    First the harder than it should be change default apps, then the edge browser 'pop up' if you try to change browser and now the requirement of windows 10 to install an adapter which would likely work fine under windows 7/8 too. Not to mention the windows 10 update downloading in the background to take up space (I can see the logic but it should be if you ask for it not forced).

    I've also read about forced installs of windows 10 on earier versions although not sure how true that is...

    yes it is our call... some of us can't upgrade, some of us don't want to upgrade due to privacy concerns (my main issue due to having nda's) and then there's stability issues, plenty of people still have this and when you use your pc for work it's kind of important to have a stable computer.....not to mention software comparability, there are some programs that don't work with win 8 let alone win 10...

    If you have windows 10 that's great and all but there is no physical reason that this usb adapter can't work on windows 7 or at least windows 8 with the correct drivers, in most cases win 8 drivers seem to work on win 10.

    Re: Microsoft starts to ship Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

    I can see myself getting one at some point, but for now i'll stick to the older version for x360 controllers i have

    On a hardware note, i thought the older hardware design was far more sensible: a small black plastic thing on a long USB cord that you could reposition if you had range issues. This new one is fixed and looks wide enough to potentially block adjacent USB ports :/

    How about some Halo and Forza to accompany it then? You've got the ball rolling with some ms controller support, give us a good reason to go buy them!
