A mainstream manufacturer seeking crowdfunding for marketing a SSD. Really? Next we will have Intel doing it for their next overpriced cpu or Microsoft doing it for the next X-Box.

You need a crowdfunding campaign to stick some LEDs to an SSD? Knob off

You want me to fund an LED device that only has one colour per choice and only 'breathes'?
It doesn't have a range of patterns and multiple lights that I can do funky things with like, say, the Crucial RAM I already have?
And you only make it in stark white instead of other colours, including the classic and ever-fashionable black?

Couldn't agree more - I'm sure I saw a kit (OCUK?) that bling'd a conventional SSD. If they wanted me to buy into this new one then - like you say - I'd want more options on the flashing lights. In my case I'd like some kind of load-dependency (colours, flashing, etc) which is what I've got with my Crucial Tracer.

Re: Avexir seeks crowdfunding for its jet fighter inspired S100 LED SSD

Maybe crowd funding is a way to see if consumers actually want it. That way they don't design something that won't sell. But that said sex sells, in this case LED's, like it or not.

Re: Avexir seeks crowdfunding for its jet fighter inspired S100 LED SSD

Despite the questionable crowdfunding campaign, I find the real disappointment to be the lack of full RGB LEDs on these, especially seeing as we know it's possible within this form factor from some of Asus' recent ROG heatsinks with full RGB logo customisation - just makes this seem a bit lazy

Re: Avexir seeks crowdfunding for its jet fighter inspired S100 LED SSD

WTF? Why would anyone crowd fund that? From the title I thought it might be some clever fibre optic enhanced innards doing optical speed data transfer. Not just a chav-light pimped-up piece of bling.

You'd be better off putting your money towards some LED strip lights than crowd fund a lazy developer whose idea of R&D is putting a light on it. Sticking a coloured light on a bus doesn't make it a jet fighter. Same goes for SSDs. I'd rather have no light and faster innards.

If their R&D head vetoed the funding for this waste of time, then good on him, and they can just let their pet project die. If it's that they can't afford to develop products themselves, let business economics take its course and we can all sit back and watch this "jet fighter" crash and burn.

Does a tiny LED bulb really cost them that much ?

So is it just me who thinks that sticking LEDs on something that sits on the INSIDE of your case is not visible the vast majority of the time is a complete waste of time...? No...?

I'm struck by how many windowed cases are still being produced, so maybe this latest set of "flashy lights" would be visible. Plus I get the impression that they're targetting the guys with existing lighting sets.

And even if you're not running a windowed case, the current trend (afaik) is for wide mesh grilles through which, I'm guessing, this lit drive should be visible ... to an extent.

As I said before though, I can't really see the point of it myself in the current form. Give those lights some practical use - other than free advertising for Avexir - and I might be interested.

I actually had to cut my own window, although the results are fantastic...
This would be highly visible in either my drive cage or any of the other mounting points, as well as potentially wherever I wanted to create a new one. Only takes 4 small holes drilling and it's done.

    Massively so.
My case was originally designed thus, with LED fans only showing through the intake grilles. They were white though, so I went off that quite quickly and started modding...

There are essentially three types of case lighting:

Basic - Components come with small accent lights built in, like a Roccat mouse, Corsair AIO or a the GeForce GTX logo on a GPU.
Mood - LED strips, usually, to give the case and any holes/meshes/grilles a gentle glow.
Ttaskmaster - Everything lights up and has custom patterns that alternate and vary depending on what the individual components are doing, along with a boatload of custom LEDs, displays, readouts and so on, all of which are similarly connected and supply informational feedback. Static mood lighting not permissible.

In fact, the only LEDs in my system that do almost nothing are the ones on my EKWB components... although I'd argue that they show me my reservoir fluid level and you can see the slight turbulence which subtly refracts around the case, but that's just me!

We all have weaknesses for cool things. I am no different and guilty too.
My Crucial Ballistix Tracer Elite has customizable LED colours and patterns. One day, I need to figure out how to cut the side of my case as my Z9 doesn't have a clear window to admire the fireworks inside.
