fyi: that cumulative update requires a computer restart to install it. on win10 home edition at least.
Those Windows insiders ain't doing their job very well are they.
Maybe Microsoft should rehire all those QA staff they let go last year and stop depending on the developers to test their own code.

Oh The 'resetting of tracking features' was a bug, what a coincidence that one of the first thing any mildly 'tech savvy person' turns off happened to have a bug that turned them ALL back on... maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.
Sure doesn't say a lot for the free testing they're getting if they let that sort of bug get through does it.... really instils confidence of upgrading to an OS where you can't chose what updates to install.
Not that it was insiders that reported it as reports came in soon after GA of the November upgrade, but even if we consider it was reported by insiders that speaks volumes about how Microsoft is dealing with bugs, doesn't it?
Either way, if it was reported by insiders or not isn't really relevant, what is IMO, is that this new way of developing software isn't working for Microsoft yet, whether that will always be a case, and how long it will take before things like this to stop happening who knows.
or (cynical hat on) perhaps they had reported it and nothing was done, with MS hoping normal users wouldn't notice, and then the press and blogs got involved which raised awareness of the 'reset' so it magically turned into a bug... it's not like MS haven't been a little underhanded of late with the way they're handling OUR pc operating systems.
well, a lot of the updates so far, didn't require one. this one did. some of you lot might be rolling it out on critical systems and suddenly wonder why everythings turning off and breaking, with susan from accounts on the phone saying her computers gone dead.
I try and be helpful on here for once...
The weirdest thing that happened with this update but must be a coincidence was:- previously my backup computer (a 10 year old motherboard) started to take about 5 minutes to boot up, tried everything to find the fault another drive, memory and so on with the usual checks...anyway thought the power supply must be playing up (which I didn't change) so gave up. Well upgraded to 10586 (I'm an insider) and the computer now boots up in 35 secs.
H'mm 10586 reaches the parts another build can't all strange.
2nd computer gigabyte P965ds3p, 7770 E2140@2.9ghz, corsair HX520 6 years stable, replaced now with E8400@3.9ghz and will overclock more when I'm bored.
That sounds like playing the update lottery, only in a bad way
From what I saw it installed an entirely new operating system the same as upgrading from windows 8 to windows 10 due to the windows.old folder of several gb that I removed via disk cleanup.
It also breaks hardware encryption on Samsung and i think some other devices when trying to use bitlocker.
I ended up reinstalling a couple of times with the original 1511 ISO I got before googling it.
Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack
off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.
its at this point I realise that you may think I was talking about the whole massive update patch 1511
I was refereeing to that teeny tiny - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3121244 the one that just fixes the privacy setting.
I wasnt talking about the whole massive 3GB+ update . i'm not that daft (possibly)
I installed win 10 fresh using the November update ISO last week.
then this fix came along on the 25th.
it is listed as Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3120677) in my update list
but..
it was a tiny teeny file it downloaded that only fixed the privacy settings
it does say in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3120677
can see why its confusing me a lot and you a little bit.If you have previous updates installed, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer.
I really should read stuff a bit more carefully, and wait for other people o reply first before typing stuff, so I have more of an idea whats going on.
aah well.
