Maybe when they start forcing people to upgrade to Windows 10 in 2016 it will manage to beat the adoption rate of an OS people paid 120 odd quid for when it was released.

Re: Windows 10 is now running on 9 per cent of the world's computers

I wonder how many people have used windows 10 and then gone back to the old os.... it's not like there hasn't been any privacy, compatibility or update issues with windows 10.

My mums work computer had the 'pop up' for windows 10 a couple of nights ago but due to the lack of tech support at her workplace (don't go there) she doesn't even know if it's ok to upgrade to it, so we select 'no' and it goes on to download the files anyway.

As I've said before I like MS but they're being rather underhand with their approach to getting people onto windows 10 and I can only assume there is an ulterior motive. Maybe me and Saracen () aren't in the minority anymore when it comes to Windows 10 and being suspicious of its future intentions. Or maybe it's all the reports of bad updates after updates which you can't stop....

Re: Windows 10 is now running on 9 per cent of the world's computers

That's 15 per cent of its target to get Windows 10 on a billion systems by mid-2008
Now THAT would be an impressive acheivement...

Have to say I'm really liking Windows 10. Got it on my laptop and on my new Tablet (early Christmas present) and it works well in both desktop and tablet modes. Having previously bought into all things google for the easy integration of my email/docs/storage with Android, the ability to do exactly the same thing with my desktop/laptop/tablet has me firmly signed up for MS now. It's not like I was really doing anything with my soul anyway

Re: Windows 10 is now running on 9 per cent of the world's computers

MS attempted to reinvent the wheel. Unfortunately instead wheel we got triangle now. Nobody in the right frame of mind thinks that "10% market share already OMG!" claims are reason to be cheerful. W7 required only a month or 2 to rack up 30%. There is simply no way I will ever get on 10. Already purchased 2 additional W7 licenses and testing linux distros for potential switch. As for Win Update it was disabled long time ago. Another WinMe moment.

Not a fan of 10 but I wouldn't liken it to WinMe. ME was more or less a reskinned 98SE with a new version of IE & Media Player designed to hold over until XP was finished.

I'd say 10 is closer to Vista, making big, decisive changes. Much like Vista it'll be interesting to see which of those changes MS will have to row back on and which will become accepted.

I personally think Windows 10 is a winner. I've installed it on my primary PC, and also my laptop. No complaints

Naah, 8 was closer to Vista; that's where the big decisive changes came in. 10 is closer to 7 - it's Win 8 done right (in the way 7 was Vista done right). And in fact it's more of a retrograde step than 7 was - there are lots of things they removed in 8 that are back in 10 (start menu being the obvious one).

Everyone in my house is on Win 10 now and they're all very happy with it. Desktop experience really isn't significantly different from 7 (look and feel aside), which only really leaves the privacy concerns; and anyone who uses a Google account for anything has nothing more to fear from MS than they do from Google in that respect. I've had very few upgrade issues, and none that haven't been solved by driver updates already.

So by all means say that Win 10 isn't right for you at the moment, or that you don't want to upgrade - but don't make that the basis of an assumption that Win 10 is all bad, or has made significant changes. It isn't, and it hasn't.

Don't see why. I think he is in favour of choice, just not having things rammed down his throat.

Unless someone can demonstrate that only 5% of users *wanted* win 10 on their PC

Of course it is. I would have thought that a large percentage of non-gamers would have held onto Windows 7 for another 3-5 years is Windows 10 had been £100

The fact that 10% of desktops are running Windows XP still, says a LOT about upgrade habits

I've seen small businesses running XP and all they use it for is a database of stock or similar...so why change.
