I expect that is just to beat Microsoft down on license pricing. It is also interesting to see that the above spec list includes Linux as the pre-installed OS when our previous information from just a few weeks ago cited an analyst saying Windows 10 would be the OS of choice for the new Xiaomi laptops.
Windows pricing just doesn't make sense on cheap hardware, but I can't see allowing the the "with Bing" style cheap windows on an i7.
Even with the Windows tax and VAT,it shouldn't make it more than £400 to £450 in the UK,and its a pretty decent spec for the price IMHO!!
that does seem pretty good value if true. If it comes in at £400 with those specs and has decent battery life I don't mind if it has linux as standard, there's nothing inherently bad with linux these days other than lack of 'industry standard software' which you can usually find alternatives for.
Having said that as long as it's not locked down all I'd need to do is install windows for a nicely spec'd machine for the price![]()
This is a cool bit of news - looking forward to the official press release and then the Hexus review!

It makes sense in more ways than just saving money, Intel has been rather negligent in updating the kernel's drivers for their newer hardware in a timely manner, particularly for the IGP part, at this point the Haswell platform has a nice mature driver set in the kernel for just about all current distros. Looks like a nice machine.
We'll have to wait and see whether Xiaomi ll be able to repeat it well-known success strategy in Laptop industry also.
Very nice specs. Let's hope Xiaomi will continue to mimic Apple by producing thin and light machine with longer lasting battery.
