Any word from corsair? I am looking at purchasing a skylake package that would include a corsair H100i GTX but would prefer to avoid a knackered cpu/motherboard combo

Reads more like Intel overestimated the amount of pressure the new cpus can take rather than cooler manufacturers getting it wrong. They might all be within specs.. but if the spec is wrong?

A small waterblock is going to exert very little bending force on the CPU & motherboard. I expect this is only an issue in cases where people are mounting massive heatsinks vertically and unsupported. Like this.

Hmm... I'm currently planning a build with the i7 6700k, now this has me worried.

Planning to use water cooling anyway. So there wont be as much pressure on the CPU as a huge air cooler. Guess I'll take my chances.

I maybe wrong but so far it seems like this is limited to a single manufacturers mounting mechanism, other coolers not using this "Hyper-Precision Mounting System" don't apear to be effected, that raises the question of if it's a problem with Skylake's thinner PCB or this particular mounting system over stressing the 50lb limit Intel sets.

Well since there was no reports of it before hand and now there is I imagine it's still the CPU at fault.

Maybe the margins were always tight before have moved slightly in the wrong direction?

Can a manufacturer really be to blame though if you exceed their recommended safe limit, sure you maybe able to go over that recommended safe limit but can you really blame them if they lower their tolerances?

I was going to run my xigmatek aegir on my 6700 when it arrives, its clamping solution doesn't mess about... wonder what the chances of me destroying the chip and mobo are?

I've got a massive nh-d15 on my Skylake 6600k. Should really have gone for (quiet) all in one water cooling, the thing is just a little big to be comfortable with (for me, for now at least). Nothing is the matter, it's just unreasonably big, nice and quiet though.

Still works fine and although it's got to be close to the biggest available no problems so far. I don't leave my case upright though, I rest it on it's side, that may be helping.

Who knows if the "Hyper-Precision Mounting System" manufacturer even checked if they were over this 50lb limit.
