Still way too expensive. At least it will serve to drive prices down.

The only use for external ssds that I can think of is corporate espionage lol. Do people really need super fast 2tb external ssds?

For me it's not so much about the speed, it's about the reliability. I work in computer vision and I have a lot of images that aren't exactly valuable (i.e. if I lose them, no biggie), but they would be a pain in the backside to retake. A typical data run is several hundred gigs. I don't have that kind of free space on my laptop and I'm paranoid that one bad drop will kill a mechanical drive. The speed is a bonus, when you're processing several tens of thousands of images you're often IO rather than CPU bound.

Re: Samsung announces Portable SSD T3 with up to 2TB capacity

I dunno, I've personally had really good service from Samsung on their mobile side. Had the first generation Galaxy Note which developed a weird touchscreen bug. I contacted Samsung and in a few days, they sent me; a paid for RM Special Delivery envelope. Sent my phone off and got it back within a week. Very pleased with their service. I've got a Note 3 now which is brilliant but I think I'll wait one more generation before moving.

The T3 looks good but I imagine the price will be equally breathtaking.
