Apple announces record quarterly financial results

Re: Apple announces record quarterly financial results
Is continuous growth sustainable anyway? Correctly me if I'm wrong but they still made record profits, regardless of what areas it's in. Only in the capitalist west could anyone consider a revenue of 75.8 billion a problem. Although profit margin's aren't shown we all know it's very high for Apple products to this is going to translate into a healthy margin you can only imagine!

Having just picked up a Xiamoi Redme Note 2 32Gb 8 core phone 5.5" phone for £110 that can do pretty much everything (and well) I've got to wonder how long apple can keep the sky high premiums they charge going.... Then again I've never played the badge game.

As long as people make it a fashion accessory/status symbol, Apple will carry on fleecing them.

Erm, so much for editors. "Apple published its Q1 2016 results"... in JANUARY. These are Q4'15 results with Q1'16 forecasts.

Not according to Apple's own press release. These are their Q1 '16 (financial) results. Their Q1 '16 ended on December 26, 2015, as the Hexus report explains.
It's very common for financial years to be structured like this.
Re: Apple announces record quarterly financial results
Hmm, I dare say that some will start singing songs of Apple's downfall, but only an imbecile would assume that anyone can have increase in profits year-on-year forever and ever... So I can't see too much consternation in Apple HQ - after all nigh on US$76bn revenue is still a figure that most comparable companies would drool over.
As to me, I "treated" myself at Christmas (sales!) to an iPad Air 2 - replacing an old Note 10.1 tablet that gave up the ghost. And while there's some aspects that are nice, (it's a looker - especially in gold, fingerprint unlock is convenient, no-wrong-way-up power connector), on the whole I'm pretty disappointed. The "user experience" especially is pretty clunky compared to a Lollipop or Marshmallow Android tablet. And no sign of the much touted "Retina" screen - it's no clearer (to my aged peepers) than the smaller screens on Yoga 2-8" or NVidia Shield tablets. Remarked to my kids that an iPhone isn't in my future because - based on the iPad experiences - it'd be a frustration-fuelled projectile within about two days.

Interesting, because I found my android phone to be clunkier than iOS. But I recently picked up my original Android tablet one of the firestorm WebOS devices that I put cynagen mod on) and found the original 4.0 to be easier than the current 5.02.
Nearly a year on, I have a sort of love hate relationship with the phone. The stock basic apps, mail and text are rubbish - why that is beyond the scope of develepoers is beyond me, but I have found some good alternatives. The phone app ( and it is a phone!) is sluggish and occasionally drops a call instead of answering.
It syncs to Icloud, I like Google Keep (also on my iPad) but find it odd that when I sync to a shared Google calendar, the Android device takes up to 12 hours to sync, the iPad does it almost instantly.
Connectivity is better - I can run SSH and easily connect to SMB file shares. I can do that from my IPad, but the interface isn't quite as good, partly down to the app.
There seem to be more rubbish/gimmick apps play store (subjective) but apps that do identical functions ( banking for example) work equally well on both platforms.
But it has taken far more time and some knowledge to get to where I am with it, while the iPad was just pick up and go, and I guess the iPhone would be the same. And iTunes is anything but intuitive!
The Apple results aren't bad, and continual growth isn't sustainable. If Apple introduced a lower cost iPhone, I'd probably be in that market. But it wouldn't be a straightforward decision.

I think that's key really - at the moment, they don't see any need to head towards anything but the high margin end of the market. That way leads to great profits after all.
*if* they need to, then they can always cut into the margin to gain market share.

The same old story with any mention of Apple on this site, it is amusing.
I am waiting for right price before I buy my next Apple device, whether that is a phone upgrade or tablet, I didn't realise this was going to affect Apples profits this badly. ;)
Probably a victim of their own success, because their build quality has always been top-notch. My old dear is using my old iPhone 4 which i grabbed on release, and it is still going strong in nearly its 6th year of life.

Which old story's that? The questions expressed so far appear to be largely in line with those being asked in newspapers/mainstream news sites in reaction to these results as well.
Re: Apple announces record quarterly financial results
Strangely if the latest rumours are true of the iPhone 5SE, I might seriously consider it as next phone. I'm just tired of the massive Android wave. I'm no fan of iOS or iTunes but at this point I'm seriously considering one to have a good quality reliable camera in my pocket that weighs less than 120g. I'm not fussed about a big screen. I just need basic features and a good camera at a price point below £350. If they can release it at £349 I'm going to seriously consider it.

*cough* £225 for a Sony Z3 compact *cough*
But actually, much the same here - I admire both Apple's well integrated eco system and Android's freedom. Android is slightly more 'me' at the moment but I don't really mind either way.

One Plus 2 is now £200 on offer.
Plus the Motorola phones are awesome. My Moto G went flying onto cobble when I tripped over one night and it was fine and a few weeks later a mate when drunk dropped his one face first onto cobble without a case and it was fine. Known so many people with iPhones who dropped them and had smashed glass on the front of the screen.
The latest Moto G is fully waterproof as is the Moto X Play.
Metal does not equal better built. A lot of MIL-SPEC rated stuff is built of a combination of metal, plastic and rubber.

Build quality on the outside maybe...but inside they're not half as good as many people think. Difficult to repair and expensive for spares because of the Apple brand

I really am not a fan of the iphones over processed photos though. I don't regard it as a good camera in any way just average. Many cheaper phones do as good if not better but people like how the photos look
