    Why cant they just run fibre alongside the overhead telephone wires directly to the home??? Virgin did a very successful trial of it in a village near me, much cheaper than digging up the road.

    because of thieving scum who keep nicking cables.

    plus BT own the telegraph poles. Can't see them making sharing them very simple. They're bad enough with giving space/access in their exchanges

    Here in my small city in the US they just finished rolling out fibre to the entire city last year. $40/mo for 100/100Mbit. No contract. No caps. No filtering. It's good stuff! Gigabit fibre is only 60/mo.

    They buried everything under the sidewalks without tearing anything up using horizontal drilling. Though they could have placed their splice boxes in more aesthetic locales.
