Assume you mean the 29th Feb ?
Well since Valve was involved, I kinda expected it to be 500% of the production cost. Probably still using the cheapest possible hardware inside the device. Calling this a "Consumer Edition" is a bad joke.
If they buy me a bigger house with a spare room to use this in I will bite, until then I will stick with my Rift order.
Crimony!!!!!
HOW much???!!!
"Buy our new headset, which *just happens* to be coming out at the same time as our new phones..."
I don't want my 'deal sweetened' with wireless controllers, mobile phone functionality, room scale sensors, or free 'VR Experiences'... I just want a decent, affordable headset to play Elite with.
Exactly! This was the one I was ear marking to buy and had set myself a budget of around 500USD but this is too much cause i dont want all the extras I want it to work well whilst i set and play the game at my pc using keyboard and mouse for FPS or Joystick for Elite.
Kind of wish i had taken the punt on Aura-visor and not cancelled my KS backing now.
The difference isn't much more than the high street price of an Xbox One "Elite" controller or a top of the range keyboard, and much less than a steering wheel. The price difference could narrow considerably (or go the other way) once Oculus tell us how much they want for their handsets.Quote:
At $799 its $200 more than its main rival - the Oculus Rift...
But I already have all that. Why would I pay that again, in order to get a load of gumph I'd never use and which does a far worse job than that I've already spent ages researching and deciding on?
Why wouldn't they offer a basic Headset-Only package? Sounds a bit like paying £20,000 to fill up your Aston Martin fuel tank, but not complaining because that price includes a free Smart Car...!!
To be honest, the whole package doesn't appeal to me much either. As far as roomscale VR is concerned, I would be left with the question of what to do with the handsets whilst propelling my wheelchair - not to mention tangling the cable in my wheels :) Even sitting at a desk, I probably couldn't hold them up for long, and I suspect I wouldn't have the strength to use the headset.
I suspect they only (at present - who knows if things will change later?) sell the complete package in order to make life simple for developers, who will know that every user will have access to the same methods of control.
I wonder if it will come to the international market at a better price than the rift given both valve and HTC do more international dealings than oculus.
Outside-US, getting a better price than the US? That would be a first.....so I wouldn't bet on it!
The Vive price may be good, if the beacons are a worthwhile extra/feature.
Still too low a resolution for me to be buying into. It would be like going back to standard def :(
would probably get it if it was around $100 less, but right now occulus seems like the better deal.
