Does the bracket need to be directed towards the remote? I.e does the back of my pc need to be facing outwards?
Shouldn't need it, its RF not IR.

2.4GHz RF receiver, so it's going to be like a cheap wireless keyboard (i.e. non-Bluetooth one), non-directional but crap range. The range is probably more like 3-4m in clear air and worse with walls, especially seeing as the receiver is inside a metal case.
Fail to see how this is any better on a day-day basis than using a wireless keyboard and enabling USB wakeup, the only advantage seems to be that it also has a reset button but that is so little used for most people. I wonder if it supports the 4s long power button press?

But i can see how the Silverstone card will be nice for a HTPC, especially if it supports universal remotes.
Was gonna say, it'd cost less than $5 to have made it WiFi capable and thus vastly expand its utility and range.
Incidentally I wonder if there's any actual security on this thing, or if the remote and PCIe card are even paired to each other. Because if not, then you'll end up switching on and off every PC in range every time you use it. Which could be fun in other ways...
If the PC is networked (and what PC isn't?) just use Wake on LAN to start your PC from your phone or tablet etc.
Wake-on-LAN only works on wired connections though, plenty of people (myself included) run desktops over WiFi.
As 'eviling' said, I can kind of see the use with HTPCs but in that environment I think the idea of yet another remote may put people off.
Would it initiate a proper restart/shutdown or a hard reset/shutdown. I'm guessing the latter if it connects to the motherboards FP headers :/ mmm meh.

Do any of the people saying this is useful for a HTPC actually have one? Ive had a HTPC for about 6yrs and only turn it off if Im cleaning the fans. Which is twice in 6yrs because it's mostly passively cooled. Ive never had the need to reset my HTPC either. My HTPC is either on or in sleep mode, because it has to wake up to record TV programs.
If anything this 'invention' is surely designed for systems that produce a lot of noise and have to be located in another room or in a cupboard. Lot of noise HTPC? You have built it wrong.
Surely this doesn't need a PCIe or PCI interface? I assume it's just using the slot for power, in particular the 5v standby rail.
Should be a smaller PCB that's USB header powered in my opinion, this way it doesn't waste an expansion slot and makes the lot easier to tidy and hide away.
What I understand of this, the bonus over USB wake-up is that you can actually turn your computer off when using this, rather than leaving it in sleep mode, which in my opinion is much better. Plus if you have cats that have a tendency to walk on your keyboard its not going to get turned on by accident.
I use an Android app called Unified Remote for this. It can start the machine using wake over LAN, and easily shutdown gracefully (plus lots more stuff).
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
Would there be many situations you would need this when you have the wake on lan option for hard to reach devices?
