Re: AMD Zen and Intel Kaby Lake to go toe-to-toe at end of 2016

I would like to see Zen within 5% of Skylake on IPC (Instructions Per Clock), that way the competition could be on value only. We all loved a performance competetive AMD in the 00's, I think it's a tall order now but if they get close enough it should be enough for them to be competitive in at least the enthusiast space.

Even if it's 5% on the low side, they can price it accordingly. They will be able to regain the server space on such an IPC target. It's a good base line for future AMD processors, too.

Re: AMD Zen and Intel Kaby Lake to go toe-to-toe at end of 2016

I think it will be around IB or Haswell IPC at most. Even at IB level IPC with a 3.5GHZ to 4GHZ clockspeed range,if AMD sold a 6C/12T chip for £200 to £225 and a 4C/8T chip for £175,it would still be decent value for money, especially since AMD actually bundles a half decent stock cooler now, which is rated for 125W TDP instead of the 95W TDP Zen is supposed to have. Remember there is no stock cooler with K series chips. Also as the first AM4 Zen CPUs have no IGP,I expect they will be smaller than even the Kaveri APUs in die size. I read somewhere that AM4 motherboards are supposed to be quite feature rich too.

Re: AMD Zen and Intel Kaby Lake to go toe-to-toe at end of 2016

Bintel is overhyped just like gimpvidia. Look at fail-lake. It only has 3% ipc improvement over has-been. No doubt kabylake will be the same. Also, kaby release keeps getting delayed so i dont see it hitting on time schedule. Did i mention the fail-lake cheap silicon fiasco?. Bintel clearly skimped on qc and plumped for the cheap and nasty, thin wafer silicon. No wonder the 6600k and 6700k were bent out of shape under cooler weight. Amd screwed the pooch w7th bd but they are back on track with zen (even though intel concubines claim it will perform somewhere in between has-been and broad-pants. Total rubbish bearing 7n mind they have no proof). Imo, i think zen will outperform fail-lake and maybe even kaby.

The silly names not only make your posts hard to decipher, but don't exactly lend your thoughts an air of credibility either.

And as an AMD concubine, whats your proof for Zen outperforming kabylake...or even skylake for that matter? Or should we just assume that your talking "total rubbish" as well?

Definitely meant to be "KayBee" (stressed "Kay", unstressed "Bee") lake, due to the singular "B" in "Kaby". To be "Cabbie", it would have to be spelt "Kabby". No idea how that could be pronounced "Carb Eye" as that follows no correct English pronunciation rules.

Just remember that "Kaby Lake" follows US English pronunciation rules. Any other pronunciations are just plain wrong. ("Sorry not sorry" for any regional accents where you'd want it to sound differently, but it is the way it is.)

For the record, I'm a Brit and I vehemently disagree with the assertion that the UK English pronunciation would sound like "Cabbie Lake", as a lot of online pronunciation sites are suggesting.

The funniest thing is not your attempt at childish humor but that you presumably don't like Intel or Nvidia yet your system says otherwise, that and you don't even know the difference between silicon and substrate.

When the US pronunciation of "Arkansas" is "Ahh can saw"? Nah, they can do silly place names just as well as us English with our "Bichester" being pronounced "Bister". So Kaby Lake probably starts with a "K" sound, after that all bets are off

Edit to add: People probably find out how it is pronounced by Google searching. That got me this lovely website where you can type any nonsense you want into the query part of the URL and see what the machine guesses on how to say it. Only I know for sure though, as I made the word up

I have to say canotpost72, your creative nicknames gave me a giggle, but there is no evidence for the comparisons...
