So hopefully for Zen. Intel would just coast without competition in the x86 sector.

Like AMD is anywhere comparable to Intel. Lol.

But this must be a really meaningful contribution - it's only his 7th post in 8 and a half years!

Well, he's longer serving member than me! Maybe I should show a little more respect and see how he wants the discussion to flow.
Do continue, kpkCioby.

Trouble is we need to go back longer than that to remember how the Athlon 64 made everybody sit up and take notice. Personally I hope Zen is a bid step forward, and not just because of the Blakes 7 reference.

if zen is 20% better than my trusty 3770k stock speeds in games and can OC well, I might just get one. Will see how it pans out.

Well I am his elder by a few months (and I'd been lurking for about a year before then!) so he could show me some respect ;)

a. I would be shocked if it isn't.....and AMD might as well pull out of the market.
b. I can't see how 20% increase is worthwhile for a 250-300+ukp upgrade.

Is it "Cabbie" or "KayBee" Lake?
Or "Carb Eye"?

I've always mentally said "KayBee Lake" which, as I'm from Liverpool and cannot speak like a civilised human being, is clearly wrong.
Still very eagerly awaiting Zen, I think I say that correctly - "Zen" :)

Sorry, Sean Connery's doing the advertising campaign so AMD Zen is pronounced "Shen"
Re: AMD Zen and Intel Kaby Lake to go toe-to-toe at end of 2016
Even though I personally use Intel now, I have used AMD previously, the last one being the FX8350. I am hoping that AMD can bring something very strong to the market this time.
All markets need competition to survive otherwise it just stagnates.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens at the end of the year with this.
