    It would be nice if monitor manufacturers would release products with DP 1.3 compatibility, before they finalise DP 1.4!

    Exactly this. Also 1.3 is supposed to have hdr which is exciting.

    DP looks more and more promising and exciting with each passing day. I wonder if HDMI is on its way out? DP is much better. The only thing that bothers me about it is the Intel's copyright on it. [?]

    I think you might be thinking of Thunderbolt? Displayport is an open standard defined by VESA (Video Electronics Standard Association), not Intel (although Intel is actually a member of VESA, as it happens).

    Thats easy to understand when Thunderbolt uses the same connector whether thats mini DP or USB C.
